Array The 'Real World'. Nothing like MTV I'm gonna try with a new thread and topic. Instead of the fantasy being something far off and remote, why don't we play normal people leading everyday lives.
Edit______
We have coexisting and intertwining lives, in the same environment- I started with a journal entry because I didn't want to shape the other characters in the story. Thats for you people.

Array I'll start off as a struggling writer/student/fencer, trying to make the money he needs to go to school and still afford his fencing. He lives in the big city, and tries to make due with what he has.
My name will be....... Alexander T. Kahn. If a little dreaming is dangerous, the cure for it is not to dream less but to dream more, to dream all the time~Proust

Array Hey go for it. We should have some basic ground points, that way everyone can work together and not get mixed up about where they are, etc. "Wars may be fought with weapons, but they are won by men. It is the spirit of men who follow and of the man who leads that gains the victory." - George S. Patton -

Array Or, not - just run with it. Go ahead and write whenever you're ready, fencer. It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us the freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us the freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who gives us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves beneath the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag, who allows the protestor to burn the flag. - Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC -

Array Journal entry: 4/10/04
Today was difficult. Woke up and tried to write. Couldn't get off the ground. Heavy stuff, this writing. It's tough to write for money. It's different than writing for one's self. Had no motivation. I'll write tomorrow.
Tomorrow is Easter. I remember the Easters of long ago, when I lived in the county and I was very young. I would go to Easter Egg hunts with all of the kids from our town. We would all hunt for that Golden Egg, that one easter Egg that meant more than all of the others, because that one had money in it. It wasn't much money, but any money was a lot of money for us kids. I never could find that golden plastic grail. I watched all of my friends, year after year find it and break it open, and I would watch them unfold that crisp and beautiful dollar bill. To them it was joy. To me it was heaven. The one thing I wanted but never did get....
I'm very different than I was then. I'm older, and I've left that world behind. I've grown much since then and I've changed a great deal.. I'm not 4 feet tall anymore. I'm not the short goofy little fat kid I was way back then. I'm almost 6 feet tall now. My hair has gotten darker as I've aged, my complexion sterner, and my demeanor has changed dramatically.
I hear my neighbors walking down the hall. These thin brick walls hide no sounds. I wish I could get to know them better, but they are new, and I haven't the chance to introduce myself to them. Maybe I haven't made the chance. I'm such a procrastinator. I never get anything done. All I do is observe things, and I never change anything... Maybe they will introduce themselves to me. It would make things easier. I'd probably still be cold. I'm always cold. I don't know.

Array Ah, what the hell... Mike Reiss was on his way to class - out the door, down the hall, elevator ride, jump on the bus, three and a half minute walk, up another elevator, into the desk for another map through English - but had plenty of time still. As good a time as any to meet the new guy next door. Knowing the people on one's floor was usually a good thing; frequently the ony real community one had in a college like this. He stopped, knocked on the door. It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us the freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us the freedom of speech. Array Alexander T. Kahn opened the door to find an average-height man with short brown hair and brown eyes, a stocky build, and wearing blue jeans and a black hooded sweatshirt leaning against the frame. "Hey, man, settle! Name's Mike Reiss - I live down the hall a bit. Thought I'd say hi to the new guy on the way out to class. What's up?" It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us the freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us the freedom of speech. Sharline stepped out of her room and continued to lock the 5 locks she had. She looked down the hall and saw some guy introducing himself. Great, another geek she thought. She was just going to pass them by, but the geek already caught her looking at him. No point in making enemies before she had to.
"Name's Sharline." She held out her hand. -

Array " Not much. I can't talk too long. I'm writing a story. And you- what class are you on the way to?"
I half-lied. I wish I could be writing something creative, but nothing would come to me. I hate it when I 'have' to write. My journal was still there. It welcomed me. I didn't have to worry about opinions or whether people would or wouldn't understand what i was writing. Array "English, as it so happens. I'd ask you what you're writing, but we're ignoring Sharline here." He tossed his head sideways to indicate the girl waiting with her hand extended. Array Damn. That priss girl from across the hall walked over. I always had the feeling that she didn't do anything unless she had to. Always gave me stares when I'd walk in from practice. probably because I was walking in with my foils in hand. Wish I could afford a nice wheelbag. Wish i could afford to practice more.
I stood at my door, facing the two of them now. I didn't know what to do. Should I continue on with Mike, or adress both of them. I'll let things happen for now. No need to act until necessary. Array "You're still ignoring her..." Mike prompted. It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us the freedom of the press. She dropped her hand. Geeky and rude, perfect. .
"Thanks, I always enjoy being talked about in the third person." she looked flatly at Mike.
"I live just over there." She jerked a thumb behind her. -

Array "Hey, babe, I'm trying to get him to quit ignoring you," Mike explained. "If I'm talking to him about you, third person makes the most sense." Turning back to Alex: "Dude, do you really want to start off making an enemy of her?" Mike started wishing he'd made it to the Academy again. The squadrons there would have made it so much easier to meet people.

Array Damn. She's rude. Stupid girl. Stupid Mike. Couldn't he tell I wanted to be left alone. She's like most pretty girls. Rude. I put on my fakest smile. I glowed radiantly, like a white-faced glowstick. False and smiling.
"You live over there? You mean, with that great view of the parking lot? What's your story anyhow?" If a little dreaming is dangerous, the cure for it is not to dream less but to dream more, to dream all the time~Proust

She looked at him smiling at her. That's gotta be fake no one smiles at her. She couldn't even remember someone smiling at her since she was 10.
"You want to know my story? Why? So you can write it down in that book you carry with you everywhere?" She ran her hand through what hair she had at the time... had fun with the sissors last night. She tells them her name, what do they do? Barrage her with stupid questions and explanations, not one name from either.
"Thanks for the lesson in english." She said to Mike. "I'll keep it in mind." Similar Threads -
