"You owe me nothing, Zelda. And you owe my child less. He or she will be heir of Muu. No one needs to know that this child is not Meekal's," Moon said, shaking her head as she placed a hand on her swollen belly. "That was the reason for the hasty wedding. It needed to be done, fast."

"Who says the tike cant be heir to both? I mean there is buckleys and none of my getting pregnant in the near future. And I would rather have the child of someone I know and love inherit the kingdom, then those bloody Von Schmects. Which reminds me, I must write out proper powers of Royalty for you, so that if they DO turn up you can send them away. HMM maybe a royal decree banning them from Arconia could be fun. What do you think?"

Tębryn stood from where she had been crouching. "You certainly keep busy," she observed as she silently approached the Swordsman.

"I protect. It's just my thing." He put a hand on her damp head. "Now let's go back over by the fire."

"But there's people over there." She pulled the hand off her head, and held onto his wrist.

    "That's a good thing."

"Then why do you always avoid it?" She looked up into the dark spot that was supposed to be his face; he was back-lit by the fire.

"Understand this: I will never let you become like me."

"Alright...hey. Moon and Zelda are leaving the fire. Looks like they're walking away together."

Nękos smiled. "You can never practice too much."

Tębryn smiled in the darkness, crouched back down, and slipped silently through the night.

"You don't have any parchment, do you? We're in the middle of the woods," Moon asked. Then, she laughed. "Funny...somehow I feel you should be asking me that question. I'm supposed to be the scribe." Moon shrugged. "I suppose all will be well once I return."

"I think I have some in my pack somewhere....if not I am sure Rosaline will have some, that girl has a pack of magic tricks. Before we go, can I ask one thing?"

"What?"" Moons voice was light, but there was underlying suspicion.

"Friends? And that I promise I will never let it all build up again."

"Friends." Moon nodded with a smile. "We should get back to the fire before we get into trouble. Two queens, alone in the forest. Not good."

"Not unless we are plotting the overthrow of a third!" Zelda smiled, and continued talking "We had better get back, or Naekos will send out search parties with orders to drag us back forcibly. Personally I dont want to have to deal with him angry again just yet, its a tad scary."

"You noticed?" Moon asked as she began to walk. "I'm surprised he didn't take my head when he saw me." She shrugged. "Not that I wouldn't have deserved it."

Tębryn knew the more important part of spying: Memory. If you couldn't remember what you'd just overheard, what was the point? She stayed where she was for a moment, then returned quickly to the Swordsman, whom she swore hadn't blinked since she left.

"Alys," A voice said behind them. "went ahead with the gypsies." Rosaline answered the question, hands on her hips.

Both women jumped and squinted against silouette to see who it was. Rose didnt' blame them. WIth ehr hands on her hips, her cloak was spread and her hood was up.

    "Rose?" Zelda asked.

"Yes Rose, that's not the question here. The question here is what do you two think you're doing out here alone?"

    "We're . ." Moon began."

"You Moon, are pregnant and shouldn't be out in the cold rain, you'll get sick. Both of you should not be out here without someone to guard you."

    "Nękos . ." Zelda tried.

"Nękos can't watch everyone. He may try it, but when it comes down to it he is just one man."

    "You . ." Zelda pointed.

"Yes I know, I have no right to talk to you like this. Or you Moon. I'll probably end up appologizing later, so I'll just get it out of the way now. I'm sorry for treating you so bady, but it's cold, it's raining, Both of you have had numerous attempts on your lives, we're out in the middle of the woods, in Von Schmect terratory. Now, I'm either staying with you and we can all stand here in the rain and freeze to death, or we can go back to the fire. It's up to your majesties." Rose finished with a quirked brow at both of them, and her arms folded accross her chest.

"I am SO tempted to throw something at her right now, " Zelda muttered to Moon, "cheeky minx."
At a louder volume and with a touch of sarcasm in her voice Zelda replied "Yes Rosaline, you are right, we will come back to hte fire like good little royalty."

    Rose nodded.

    "Good."

She turned and began walk, then she picked up a stick and began walking backwards.

"Come on royalty, come on, come on girls, come here."

"I have it on good authority," Moon whispered to Zelda, "that Rosaline is very ticklish. You restrain her...I'll tickle. Ready?" Zelda nodded. "GO!"

It was then that the queens, in a very un-queenlike fashion-attacked Rosaline.

Rose grinned and waited for Zelda to get closer, without realizing it she crouched. Just before Zelda was on her, she stepped to the left, then spun so she could see both of them and waited.

    "So."

"People are awful." Tębryn wasn't smiling at all.

Uh-oh... "What did you hear...?" His hands went instinctively to her shoulders, as if to be ready to shield her from...something.

"Moon was pregnant even before she got married...it's Arcon. I guess he's Zelda's husband, and he's the father...not Meekal...and now Arcon left her...and you are really mad at both of them. What did they do?"

Nękos pulled her in closer. "Rosaline and Zelda both lied to me. Zelda was very stupid to come here. Moon at least didn't lie, but she was just as stupid in coming here. What they did was exceptionally dangerous. And yes, I knew about the child..."

"But...why?" Tębryn simply could not fathom the level of betrayal that would require, or that it could be possessed in one man, or what would cause two women to fall for him.

"I do not know...but listen. They are both good people still. Including Moon. Did you hear nothing of her being sorry?"

    "Yes, I did..."

"That is what matters. She is sorry; you can see it in her any time you speak with her. Because of that, we forgive her. She is making it right as best she can."

"My father would never have done anything like that..."

It surprised him completely: The Swordsman actually felt a hot sting in the corner of his eyes. "Tębryn...shh..." He held her tightly now, one hand stroking her wet hair, as he felt the warmth of tears seep through the front of his shirt.

"...I miss them..." when she could speak.

Slowly, he lowered himself to the saturated ground, ignoring the cold wet that immediately soaked into and up through his clothing; Tębryn sat with him, settling onto his lap, arms around his shoulders, head against his neck.

And all he could do was adjust the sabre to get it out of the way.
