| Come now tireur, if someone followed you around pointing out all the dumb things you say it would be a full time job.
Don't be so critical. *******.

Don't be so critical. *******. | Wasn't being critical, didn't call it dumb. Just making a suggestion.
And you didn't catch my possessive/possesive error.
If I had read it before posting it, I probably would have.

| JoJo13, I thought about your post last night. As a fencer and a fencer's mom, I may have a different perspective on your concern. My first suggestion would be to talk to your coach. At our club the coaches are quite concerned that the kids' grades stay up there. I've seen them talk to the kids and to the parents about how important a balance between school work and sport is. I've also seen them check withthe kids about their grades. Missing fencing shouldn't be a "punishment". With my son the reality is if he wasn't fencing he'd be playing a video game - and he'd rather fence. As some else suggested, take your work with you in the car and do some at the club - I've seen some of the kids helping each other with homework from time to time. Finally this is a great oportunity to "plan your work and work your plan" - schedule what you need to do and get done .... I've been to expensive time management seminars that attempt to teach people how to do this. The sooner you can start to learn to manage your time, the better off you'll be in college. Opps, I'm starating to sound like a mom so I'd better go! |

"like 3 hours" not really 3 hours, but "like 3 hours", "your" instead of you're (twice) "scholership" instead of scholarship and "off of fencing" instead of "a fencing scholarship".
Also, how do your (notice the possesive) parents "abuse" fencing?
That's what happens when you don't pay attention in English. | Umm, yeah. Nothing adds to a bulletin board discussion on fencing more than pedantic grammar correctors pointing out errors.
Ain't thar like a bored four peepers who wanna annoy other folks wit thar (notice the posesif) ability to correct other peepers (notice lack of plural posesif) anglish?

Yes, but, you didn't notice or you would have pointed it out.
And I'll apologize here for my remark in your song thread. I didn't realize you were just a child.

| Golly! Other people correct grammar and spelling fairly frequently. I do it once, in an educational context, and get slammed. Try to help people????

| AHEM...
I think a fencing scholarship would not be predicated on your ability to spell. Particularly considering it's an ATHLETIC (note the difference from ACADEMIC) scholarship. These types of monetary awards are based on your ability to perform a specific physical activity, not to spell correctly. So spell however you want, just practice hard. |

I hope this doesn't take us back into the earlier thread where we discuss the "relative placement" of Fencing in the (ahem) Athletic Department along side those other scholarship sports where spelling is overlooked! |

Quite frankly, it is better for you not to study all the time. People who are active and physically fit tend to excel more in all walks of life, both professional (post-education, when you're searching for that ever-elusive job) and academic.
Plus activity outside the classroom makes for a better rounded, more interesting person. Also, varsity athletics (if you go to a school with a team) are a great thing to have on a resume. Unlike most college clubs and associations, sports teams have real and necessary time commitments -- people who hire out in the real world realize this, so these activities will generally count for more with them (well, other than the ones they participated in, themselves). Plus, your college will maintain a record of whether or not you were on the team, so it's an even more solid thing to put on a resume. Nobody can ever check to see if you were on the chess club or debating team ...
Research. Look for this stuff -- you'll find it. Present it to your parents. Hopefully they'll be impressed, not only by the fact that fencing can help you professionally and academically, but by how much you clearly want to continue. |

Didn't mean to include the tongue-in-cheek replies with a somewhat general blanket statement that covers all subsequent posts. Oh no! A redundancy, call the grammar cops! I can see it now:
"Hold it right there Ess!"
"But Officer, I didn't do anything!"
"We're arresting you under penal code 34-23c, inappropriate use of a preposition."
"That's what your arresting me for!"
"Exactly, you have the right to remain silent, anything you say can and will be spell-checked with the grammar option turned on. You have the right to a dictionary. In case you can not afford a dictionary, a thesaurus will be appointed to you..."

I was responding to your earlier post where you connected performance in the classroom with the receiving of an athletic scholarship. I thought it would be important to point out the differences, since you didn't seem to grasp them. Despite your sarcasm, I think we all understand why we should concentrate on our academics.
PS can we be done with the "bad spelling" posts? They're getting annoying, especially when it took me a couple minutes to figure out what "rat" meant. Obviously you didn't concentrate on the phonetics portion of your 1st grade class |

And, by the way: "Up against the wall rat naowe (southern for 'right now') you swordslinging punk. We are going to be conducting a very thorough search of your disjuncted participles and dangling conditionals today." |
