    Righty problem

    hey everyone-

Whenever I fence in a tournament, I don't usually do GREAT in pools, but I do okay. The one thing I've been realizing, though, is that I only beat lefties. I know most people have more trouble with the lefties than the righties. I'm even a righty myself! I guess I might practice with lefties more than some people, but almost all the people I practice with are righties still. Does anyone have any idea why this is? And how I could improve my game with righties?

You must be the chosen one. 1 in every millenium destined to lead righties to eradicate all evil lefties.

Does that mean she now has an English coach who appeared in Taster's Choice commercials?

It takes less time than that. I've been fencing 3+ years and I don't usually realize that I'm fencing against a lefty until halfway through the bout, although sometimes I only realize it when I go to shake hands.

As per the question, well, practice more with righties! I think that's the only solution (does your coach give you your lessons left handed? that could be it.)

Nope, my coach never gives me left-handed lessons. It's wierd anyway. Yes, my quote does have a bearing on this subject, eh? but to become a master you must learn...

ya know, its wierd you talk about the thang with lefty's, because thats almost how it is with me, id rather fence a lefty than a righy, iv never had any left hand lesseons, though i fenced left handed for a month, i know all the lefty tricks, so maybe that helps a bit huh, well i like it, most of the top fencer, including olympic fencers are left.. so i'll have a better chance against them eh?

It's possibly you're angle of attack. Think about it. R v R - you are angled diagonally across you body towards your opponent. L v R they are directly across from you. So if you are standing on guard naturally in Sixte then you are protecting your outside line (traditionally weak against lefties). Standing like this can make you more open to fellow righties if you don't realise that your doing it, and therefore budget for it. Have a look at your on guard see if that makes any sense.

It could also just be pschological. You're simply remembering beating more lefties because it's a more significant event.

    I like the 1 in 1000,000 theory.

Maybe you are the chose one...

Nooo. We cannot be defeated. Lefties are the chosen ones. We are going to rule the world and soon you will see a major power shift, where all lefties will take over all key positions in the economy.

What, you don't like it? We have suffered long enough repression, which is why we are so few now. Studies of ancient human bone remains have proven that in the prehistoric times, there were as much lefties than righties.
The reason why we are so few now?
In most major cultures, the right side is associated with the good, and the left side is evil. That is totally not true. We are not evil.

In ancient Rome, when a child would be born, the first thing the father would do would be to hand them a toy. If the baby took the toy with their left hand, the baby would be killed immediatly without mercy. There are cemetaries of left handed babies that have been found.

You all righties deserve what's coming... Aaaaahaaahahaaaaa!

If the left side of the brain controls the right side of the body
And the right side of the brain controls the left side of the body
THEN ONLY LEFT HANDED PEOPLE ARE IN THEIR RIGHT MIND!
Theses are evil....VERY evil, someone rescue me pls!

Gav, the t-shirt was bought in Hawaii when I was about 12! I had it for years until it disintergrated. Always wanted another one but never got back to Hawaii. I dont suppose its copyrighted....I've seen it on stickers and things as well.

The only thing lefties have going for them is statistics, if everybody was a leftie in fencing, i think that those evil corrupted lefties who had actually been thinking they were any good would see that they were only deluding themselves with the statistics. Is it someething like 14% of fencers are lefties but 50% of champions are lefties. Just wait until everybody is naturally ambydextrous then you can try to show your supremacy.
I discharge my nostreils in your general leftie direction
