The Fencing Post and "JL"

I was looking at fencing equipment and noticed that the Fencing Post is selling gear from a company called JL, anyone know who there are or how good they are?

I believe JL is chinese, and from what I've seen of it, it's not very good.

I was in a tight spot last june and opted to buy a JL Mask. One of the worse decisions I've ever made. It passed the punch test but after various discussions among the armorers. You can basically take your fingers and press the mesh in with a little force. Also I manage to sweat through the bib and get some very disgusting discoloration. I just bought the Uhlman FIE World Cup Mask from the fencing post. Well worth the money. I ended up writing off the JL mask as a complete lost. However if you're interested I can probably sell you my old one for a cheap price (with the dirty bib and all)

Thanks for asking, I had the same question. I noticed that they had cheap lames. If someone knows about JL's Lame quality, please post it, I'd be interested in what you say. (I'm looking for a practice lame, I already have an Allstar for competitions).

My girlfriend and another fencer in the club have the JL lames. They seem to have held up about as well as the BG lames. You get what you pay for, but they are a reasonable option.

As for their blades...
When I last ordered from The Fencing Post, I asked Saul about their blades. His response was pretty much "don't buy them." I bought StM epee blades instead for the club, but did buy a couple JL saber blades. I haven't put them to use yet, but since the only people use the sabers are non-sabreurs playing around, the cheapest option made sense.

I kinda feared that they would be cheap stuff. From the few times I've gone cheap, I've always been burned.

on lames, it looks like the BG lames are cheaper as well.

I'm getting my indoctrination to sabre tomorrow at the divisional qualifiers. I was thinking that if I enjoyed fencing sabre enough, I might start saving to buy my own gear. No one at the club fences sabre, but it might be fun to compete in.

Daughter and son both use JL lames, and they seem to be fine. They remind me of BG lames, but with a better cut for fitting. The fit is much more like an Uhlmann, the wear and functionallity more like a Blue Gauntlet.

i HAD a JL lame. Me and my friend ordered BG from Blue-Gauntlet and they shipped us JL instead. Mine was a piece of crap, the zipper kept coming off, i wore it like twice and said enough of that and bought a Uhlmann. My friend also has one, the zipper is shaped like a heart so it makes you feel a little non manly but i dont think he has had any problems with them and he has had it for about a year.

I hate to bring up old threads, but are the JL lamés truly stainless steel?

Was the discoloration rings of brown? Mine did the same, not sure what brand.
