| Best fencing grip that "I" would use? I personally like Belgian grip, it just fits my hand quite perfectly. Some of my friends say they can't do anything with a belgian grip, but it works fine for me ^^' Everyone is just different.

| I like the Uhlmann german short grip.
For those of you who say you use a french, how many are foilists, and of those, how many are competative?

| I am an "on the fence" French grip fencer in epee. I am at a point where I cannot fully make up my mind whether to fence French or not.
As to being competitive. Since Feb, I have been more competitive than ever. I have fenced three tournaments. I am a lowly E02, having won an unrated event with 10 people using a french/no pommeling. My highest placement was in Feb. 7, placing 16th of 52 in an A2 event. I was fencing with a Russian grip.

| Epee: I've been using visconti, but am now experimenting with Russian grips, modified by adding a ledge for the middle finger like a visconti, and shaping the the grip some to make it more comfortable. I like the better balance that the Russian grip affords, with the heavier tang at the back.
- I'm intrigued with the IDEA of a french grip for epee, but my coach is Russian, and I'm developing a russian epee game: Lots of preparations with strong beats and blade takes, hits in opposition, pris de fer, etc... Don't see much advantage to a french grip with this style.
- off to do MORE wrist and finger exercises... |

| Foil
I use mostly Italian Visconti's because I can get 'em in a large size. I like German but haven't found a good source for large size.
Oddly enough, I've taken to fencing dry with french. Basically, I find that it improves my blade work as you can't "power through" like you can with pistol grips. I don't think I'd use one in competition as when I'm fencing a strong opponent I don't want to worry about whether I'll be able to hold on to the grip, or worse, put a death grip on it and lose my point control altogether.
I've tried the Zivocik(sp?) but it makes the foil feel horribly tip-heavy in a way I find uncomfortable.

| It's always good to train for a few years in the French grip. With point control and parries in muscle memory at twitch speed, it's easy to switch to any other grip.
I use medium Visconti grips usually, but I do not notice a change to Belgian, Russian, or German. |

| the "Z" grips are comfortable but they don't have to strength for flicking or strong blade movements that i do. So i use the regular german grip -good stuff.

| Foil - Italian. Yeah, I compete. No strap. I like the increased strength and control with blade engagements with the Itatian over the French, and I just can't seem to use a ortho at all.
Epee - French, no pommeling. For evasive blade work and precise point control I really think there is nothing better, though I am sure everyone has their own opinion.
