Santa Cruz is usually the same level, or a little stronger than Chico. Usually some more people from LA and San Diego show up (think Loeffler, Arenberg, Alexander, etc.) and the people from Sacramento and Golden Gate show up as well.

All the PCS circuits are pretty much worth it, if you can make it to all of them. The sword at the end of year is pretty cool too!

This year the Sierra Nevada Open epee event conflicted with the World Cup event up in Vancouver so several strong California epeeists were up in Canada instead of Chico. Kip Cox fenced in Canada and then made it down to Chico for Sunday morning's SNO event, but others weren't quite as motivated (or crazy?).

Hopefully a bunch of the stronger Bay Area fencers will make it to the Boardwalk, since it's basically in their backyard.

For any geezer epeeists, the Santa Cruz Boardwalk Open has added a mixed Veteran's epee event for Saturday afternoon, complete with prizes.

2nd and 3rd place get a smaller "sword". Usually some type of knife.

I am fencing at the Paris Universite Club in Paris, located near the Montparnasse train station. Don't hesitate to come check us out if you come by!

I checked around with some fencers this week and expect a better turn out from Bay Area epee fencers than at SNO. I think we can expect Bethel, Ordody, Gerring, and Cox (at least) from GGFC, as well as most of the Cardinal fencers (Mikhailov, myself, Bothelio(?), King, Solbeck, Turkletaub, Perka), and I got a "depends on homework" Pearce. Hopefully Lichten, Martin Lee, the CFA group and some of the other less-likely local fencers will make it too. Last year it was about the same as SNO but like mfp said, this year SNO was weak, so I expect SCBO to be quite a bit stronger (in epee) than SNO this year. Lately we have been getting ~35 people for edew's Bay Cup open epee events, so if we just get that crowd plus a dozen NV, SoCal, and others it should be a first rate event.

I don't know about foil, but I think I will fence foil this year since it comes after epee.

    See y'all there!

The Bay Cup's not mine. I just administrate it.

I'll be there on Sunday for foil. Whether I'll be there as a referee or a fencer remains to be seen as I haven't heard back from the host organizer on his need for my refereeing services. I would like to fence, but I'll referee if there's a need for that.

In addition to various SoCal and Bay Area folks, I've heard some Nevadans are headed to the Boardwalk Open as well.

Foil fencers -- remember that Daylight Savings time starts this weekend, the night before the foil events.

Sssh. Damn! I was hoping for a quick knock out of some less astute fencers. (Actually, I guess any fencer who's not too astute can be easily knocked out by me.)

*raises hand* How many points did I get off you at 2 LBIs, Eric...1 for each event?? 2 consecutive years...Eric's in my pool both times...and the strip was in the same place in the venue both times!!! And the 3rd year I went I worked the armory...right next to that SAME strip!!!

I believe Wesley Bellanca may be going...not sure tho.

Going to your first tournament? Read "Choose yer weapon, Laddie (or: Dude, where's my foil?)"

Great result by Misha. He has been improving steadily over the last 2 years, and I wouldn't be surprised if he gets his A by the end of the year.

    Third.

    Anen won, DiNapoli was second.

Don't know about the women's foil. Wang and Alicea were 1st and 2nd seed.

    Who is Misha?

Germanguy and counterattack, how did you two do? Did you get to fence each other again?

Nope. I had great pools (beat Lichten for the first time ever, and finished undefeated with a +24), got the #1 seed, a first round bye, and then lost to a 65 year-old man in the 2nd round. Of course, that man was Joe Elliott, so there is no shame in it. I beat him in the pools though he out fenced me, but I blew a 14-12 lead with 15 seconds left in DEs. Who was it who complained in an earlier thread about ex-national champs who weren't giving enough back?!?!? I wish some of them would give back just a little less...

I'll let germanguy answer for himself, but I asked his teammate the next day and heard he got 7th. His teammate, Yann Staelens, also thrashed me out of the foil event 15-2.
