Nothing to see here; move along?

If you don't mind too much, Oh Mighty Board Administrator, I'm sort of curious about why you lock down obviously silly topics (recent April Fools Day jokes, for example). I don't question your authority to do so, nor pass judgment on your decisions. Just seeking a bit of insight.

If I were looking for an argument or playing Devil's Advocate, I might suggest that many other topics here are equally silly or trollish and allowed to meander waaaaaay off topic without any editorial exception. But even in those cases, they tend to die natural, lingering deaths after about a week. I'd think joke topics would do likewise ... and cause less harm in the process. I'd much rather giggle with someone about faux Nerf blade rules than grit my teeth over the latest Evangelista troll-bait.

Or am I being unnecessarily difficult?

    (humbly bows out)

dear rex: i agree with you, i think craig may have become overwhelmled when i included my link, for the hokkeko buddhist site. it is interesting to note that the profane is exalted while the lofty is locked out.
craig may have forgotten that right now, many contries including the united states are involved in a war, and that a little high spirited discussion though it be waaay off is appropriate, as long as it keeps the spirits up and not down, and does not tend to the vulgar.

How about the fact that this is a fencing board. It focuses on fencing, good or bad. Yes, this means people argue and fight. But then again, fencing is a combative sport/art (take your pick).

While humor is definitely a part of many discussions, it is not the focus of the board. And humorous discussions of nerf fencing, really are more watercooler discussion material.

Granted some of the posts are just made to start fights, but, hey just don't read those. I purposely avoid those threads, just like I avoid the ones that discuss rules for nerf fencing.

and at least the classical vs sport threads are fencing related.... if you want non-fencing related discussions with this group of people that's what the water cooler is for.

Spurious logic. If you grant one, then why not the other? Ignore both types, or lock down both types.

Locking down April Fool's jokes so that they don't live on past the date. I've received a couple of emails from people who didn't know that the post was a joke and now that April Fool's is over, the jokes can die to be reborn next year.

I have let things go for some time, but the signal to noise ratio on a lot of posts is getting too high, so I'm going to work to rectify that.

If you have a silly post you want to make, take it to the Water Cooler - that's why it was created.

Mango - Keep things as lighthearted as you want, just try to keep them on topic (not 3-5 steps removed.)

    Cheers,
    Craig

    OK.
Sometimes it's tough to draw the line between fencing and nonfencing. After all, Fencing IS Life.
    Regardless, thanks.

you shouldn't worry if people don't know about april fools jokes, it's okay, in fact it makes it more better for the person who wrote the intial joke, they can carry on for several days before dropping the other shoe!

Yeah, but it would suck if you were a newbie and placed an equipment order the day you saw it.

Can you imagine what you would get if you called a vender and asked for one of the "new" lames? Some of them are challenged getting orders right as it is!
