Array Montreal Epee World Cup Does anyone has the results of this competition? I tried looking everywhere and there's nothing about it, though it was supposed to happen this week-end. - Epee is the Louis Vuitton bag of fencing: only the best can get it, and the rest of the masses must content themselves with cheap knockoffs (sabre, foil)

Offhand I can only remember a few results. Eric Hansen ended up in the top 32 after losing to Mike Lyons. Lyons finished the highest from the USA, losing 15-13 in the top 16 to a Canadian (Gates) after his tip fell out (the director walked away and thus refused to annul the touch). Also finishing in the top 32 was Rashaan Greenhouse (sp?) who lost a nail biter (15-14) to Obry. I think those were the only americans in the top 32, of course there were several in the top 64 and then those of us who couldn't quite cut it. Sorry, but that's all I can remember about the results, I guess I'm just "americentric."

Maybe results haven't been posted yet.

-Ian Thanks Ian, That's actually all I was looking for !
Do you know how much people showed up overall? - Epee is the Louis Vuitton bag of fencing: only the best can get it, and the rest of the masses must content themselves with cheap knockoffs (sabre, foil)

Array Results are on the FIE website. They've been rather quick with uploading results than in past years.
Top US fencer was Tamir Bloom at 46th. John Normile finished 59th or so, and Eric Hansen squeaked in at 64. Rashaan Greenhouse is nowhere to be seen (the results list just the top 64 finishers...which is BS. It's one thing to say that there's not enough room in a magazine to list the complete 259 competitors (or however many), but websites should have no problems filling out the complete list. An extra 200 names is going to cost maybe 10K of additional memory space. -

Array You know, those results look suspiciously like last year's results.
Eric, are you looking in the same place as I am? (http://www.fie.ch/classement/competitions/mont_ems.htm)
I didn't think that Mazzoni is still doing World Cups. He's listed as second place. I thought he was pretty much calling it quits after the Olympics. Coincidentally, last year he finished second.

Array Those are last year's results.
The FIE posts only the top 64 because only the top 64 get WC points counting towards the FIE classification. IOW, the first day of competition is not to be seen as a "World Cup" but as a way to qualify for the World Cup event that's happening the next day. That's pretty much how the USFA works, even though the USFA puts the whole results on their website.
Granted, I'd like to see the whole results of all the world cups too. Actually a pretty good thing was done for the Monal Challenge in Paris, this year. They posted all the results from all the competition on a website, including the results after the pools, all the DE tables, etc.
I think that's the way to go.
Eric, do you think it could be doable to do this for the PCCs? It could be cool to be able to check-out the results of each round in real time on the web. Don't know how much work that would be though. I guess if you run the competition on a computer the additional work wouldn't be that big, would it? - Epee is the Louis Vuitton bag of fencing: only the best can get it, and the rest of the masses must content themselves with cheap knockoffs (sabre, foil)

I believe that there were somewhere in the range of 90 fencers who actually showed up. There was a rather nasty snow storm, and the airports had been closed, so while there were something like 110 registered, not all of them made it. Originally there were 40 US entrees, but I know that many of them were those who were absent. Basically, it was just a well run Div I NAC with the French.
