Array Moon opened her mouth to retort, but then she realized how right Krasala really was. Instead, she whispered, "I'm sorry." "Words are, of course, the most powerful drug used by mankind."

Array "With as selfish as you are," Krasala growled, "I really do wonder just why Nękos even cares about you." It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us the freedom of the press. Array "Get back on your horse," Krasala ordered, "if you still intend to make this trip. We will be riding very slowly, and you can just hope we reach their camp before they leave in the morning." Array They rode most of the day, into the night. Krasala led the way, one hand firmly gripped on Moon's horse's rein. No more chances would be taken with this one. How the Swordsman could stand her was beyond her comprehension. Ken-Dall & Slade followed, stealing occasional glances at one another after the blow up between their sisters, thinking their own thoughts. It was a miserably quiet journey, made even worse by the rain that began to fall upon them. Great, Moon thought, now I'll get ill...& never hear the end of it. But she deserved it. When Nękos saw her, she'd get an earful. She dreaded that, but she looked forward to seeing Meekal again. At least he'd be happy to see her...
She just hoped they'd find them before morning.

Array There and back again... As the evening came on, the walls of the castle finally came in to view, slowly growing back to the size the four travelers were accustomed to. As they came back onto the castle grounds, returning their mounts to the stables, Moon and Ken-Dall's thoughts remained far to the north with their beloveds. I was anyone's guess what Tębryn pondered silently, while Slade and Krasala just exchanged quick glances, knowing each other's thoughts. Array Moon trudged back toward the castle, Ken-Dall beside her. Her bag was slung over her shoulder. "I suppose I should set about the duties of caring for Arconia," she mumbled, adjusting her bag. Really, she had no idea just how to do that, but she supposed she'd have to muddle through. "I rather ignored Daddy's instructors when they were attempting to teach me a queen's role in a kingdom."
"First, you take a warm bath and get into dry clothing. Then, you eat. Then, you worry about Arconia," Ken-Dall stated. She smiled as she added, "Don't forget...I actually liked those lessons. I'll help you."
"Why couldn't you have been put in charge instead?" Moon lamented.
Ken-Dall laughed. "Easy. I'm not a queen, and I'm not friends with one."
"No, you're just a sister to one."
"True." Ken-Dall glanced behind them to check on their guards and Tębryn, who walked along behind them. "Anyone up for some food after Her Highness' bath?" "Words are, of course, the most powerful drug used by mankind."

Array "Food!" Slade exclaimed, before catching himself. "That is, sure, some food would be good." Krasala merely nodded politely.
"Why don't you come entertain me," Tębryn suggested to Slade, "while the rest of them take care of baths and such." It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us the freedom of the press. Array Blissfully ignorant about the Von Schmect invasion, & happy to be warm, dry, & fed, Moon, accompanied by her sister & Krasala, made her way back up to her chamber. She felt content, though something bothered her. "Have either of you noticed how quiet it is?" "Words are, of course, the most powerful drug used by mankind."

Array "Slade isn't here," Krasala observed dryly. "That always makes things quieter."
Slade, meanwhile, had made his way with Tębryn down to the kitchen, unaware of the impending Wrath of Nani.
Nani was angry already by the time they found their way down there. Thankfully, however, she was fuming and ranting to herself before they ever had a chance to interrupt: "Oh, as if there isn't enough to do already. Zelda leaves, so half the guards go too, nobody's watching them, Rosaline's gone, now the Von Schmects show up, want their men fed, think they're running the show, Esmerelda comes down here to personally rub into my face that she's a baronness now and I only run just about everything in the castle..."
This went on, but Slade and Tębryn had already retreated.

Array Ken-Dall shook her head. "No..." She felt it too. Something-odd-about the castle. "It's as though no one is here. No maids, no guards...no one..." She glanced at Moon, who nodded. They both looked to Krasala. "Words are, of course, the most powerful drug used by mankind."

Array Krasala raised her eyebrows. "Don't look at me - I'm not the one who lives here!"
It was at that point that Slade and Tębryn came in the door, not even bothering to knock. "Does the name 'von Schmeckt' have any special meaning to either of you?" Slade asked of the sisters. Array Moon groaned...a bad sign. "Yes...they're always trying to take over Arconia."
Ken-Dall piped, "Their idiot for a grandson was in the tournament to crown the new king."
The Queen of Muu didn't like the look on Slade or Tębryn's faces, so she dared to ask, "Why?" "Words are, of course, the most powerful drug used by mankind."

Array "No..." Moon managed.
Slade nodded.
"This isn't happening..." she continued.
Tębryn nodded.
"What am I supposed to do? Not only have I never run a kingdom, I've never dealt with crazy old barons who want to take over the kingdom!" Moon threw her hands up in exasperation. "Words are, of course, the most powerful drug used by mankind."
