| and now...the separation Moon & Ken-Dall, with Krasala & Slade beside them, watched the party leave. Tears stood in both sisters' faces as their men glanced back to bid them a parting wave, but both stood bravely, waving in return. It was only when they were out of sight that Moon's outer appearance cracked. "He left! The day after our wedding! How could he do something like that? And how could Nękos let him?" Moon sobbed onto Ken-Dall's shoulder.
Ken-Dall didn't know what to say. She simply held her sister & gazed into the direction that the party had left in, feeling an incredible sense of grief. Finally, she had found what she had been yearning for: love. And now, that love was gone. All she could do now was focus on the sister who needed her.
"I hate this!" Moon cried.

| "Come on," Ken-Dall said to Moon, "let's get you back into the castle. That actor could be creeping around. He's probably pretty angry by now." Then, she snickered. "I would have loved to see you knee him." She propelled her sister by the shoulders toward the castle.

| Slade, walking behind with his sister, gave Ken-Dall an appraising look as the four of them stepped back into the castle. Its reply was a sharp elbow to the ribs from Krasala. "She's spoken for, Slade."
"I know, I know, just appreciating the majestic scenery..."

| "She's also standing right here," Ken-Dall stated, her manner dry. "And she has excellent hearing."

| "And plenty of other excellent features, I must say." This earned him a solid smack from his sister. "I mean no harm, my dear. But you and your sister are both beautiful."
"Please nevermind him," Krasala implored. "He's a moron, but he's really a good guy."

| Ken-Dall rolled her eyes. "I certainly don't envy your position, oh beautiful Queen of Muu." She glared at Krasala & Slade, particularly Slade. "If Darion had left me guarded, particularly by these two, there is no telling what I would have done."
"I'm surprised someone hasn't bestowed guards upon you, my dear twin. If someone wanted me dead, they could surely mistake you for me," Moon returned, drying her eyes on her sleeve.
"Hardly!" Ken-Dall snorted. "I'm the prettier one, remember?"
"If it was merely my looks that made me receive a guard, I'd gladly turn that title over to you." Moon sighed. "Unfortunately, I asked for this. I just wonder how long I will have to pay for it." She exhaled an aggravated, ragged breath & to her guards said, "Will there be any moment that I am free from your company?"

| "Not a moment," Krasala assured her. "That's why he picked me to be one of the guards. We are sorry about the intrusion, and I apologize for my brother. We really will try to stay out of the way, and make this as painless as possible."

| "Too late," Moon muttered.
They'd made it to her room, & Ken-Dall said, "I think I will go lay down. I didn't sleep very well last night."
"You aren't going to leave me, are you?" her sister asked, frowning, as she took Ken-Dall's arm.
"Three's company, dear. I will catch up with you & your new friends later."
Moon watched Ken-Dall walk down the hall, sad & irritated at the same time. Sad that her sister had to go...& irritated that she couldn't go with her...without her escort. "If this is the life of a queen, I'd rather be a goat herder."

| The guards ignored the comment. "Know any card games?" Slade asked brightly.

| "No." She stalked into her room, followed, of course, by Krasala & Slade, then sat on her bed. Though she had much that she could do, she felt completely uncomfortable at doing much of anything while under constant guard. At least when there were threats against her life, she had a distraction. "So what's your story? Make it a good one."

| "We grew up in a large village just outside of Russland, to the northeast. Life was pretty good, and Dad taught us to fight - then we got better by fighting each other incessantly," Slade began to explain.
"You mean, you were forced to get better as I consistently beat the snot out of you?"
He leveled a glare at his sister. "On the contrary, my dear, I believe it was quite the other way around."
"Like hell it was, Slade. You never could hold your own at Sticks."
"Really? Then why did Dad always have to come break it up when you started crying too much?"
"He split us up to save you! Come on, this is Dad we're talking about here. He wouldn't stop us unless I was in real danger of severely disfiguring you!"
"You and your delusions of grandeur, 'Sala. You know I'm the whole reason Nękos picked us, and I made him take you, too."
"He asked us at the same time, Slade, and never has said which of us caught his eye."
Both were standing now. Hands looked ready for a fight.
"You just say that because you know it was me, but don't want to admit it. I can still take you."
"Really, now?" Krasala raised a challenging eyebrow. "Prove it."
Without a word Slade lunged, only to have Krasala catch his wrist and wrench it around. He moved with it, though, pivoting around his sister and jumping on her back. From there she threw him over her shoulder, dropping him flat on his back on the floor.
"Excuse me?" Moon put in.
The two continued to grapple on the floor.
"Excuse me?"
"HEY!!"
The siblings halted suddenly, twisted up together, limbs askew, Krasala's open mouth poised and ready over her brother's wrist, while his hand maintained a stranglehold on her shoulder.
"Yes?"

| "As exciting as this all is, having a sibling of my own, this is still my room. I'd like for it to remain intact," Moon stated, standing from the bed. "You know, speaking of Ken...I think she had a good idea. I feel very tired." She frowned at them after a moment. "They did tell you of my circumstances, did they not? All of them?"

| "You don't want to hear the rest of the story?" Slade sounded crushed, and did his best to make a face that gave the same impression.

| Moon sighed. If it would keep them out of her hair, she'd listen. "Fine." She raised an eyebrow. "But answer me first...you know my circumstances, correct?"

| "Yes," Krasala confirmed. "We were briefed quite extensively."
Slade jumped in eagerly: "So there we were, growing up the good life, fighting each other and Dad all the time, with Mom not even grumbling too much when she had to patch us up. Then Nękos came by when we were about fifteen. Our parents were not at all happy with us going and wandering with a dark character who looked about our own age. But, he explained his intentions quite clearly, and demonstrated even more clearly that he could take on the two of us, and Dad, all at once. That was enough to convince Dad. So we went with this Swordsman, and now here we are. Never looked back."

| "I see..." Moon lowered herself back onto her bed. "What do you mean 'extensively'?"

| "It means we were told everything he deemed need-to-know, including your...circumstances...which in turn explain your disposition. He also explained to us your personality and weapons experience, as well as the layout of your room, the nearby parts of the castle, and the surrounding grounds. That's what 'extensively' means."
