    Umm...right.

"The problem with that is when the two do not match up. I found the one person I fell in love with. The One. And she hates me. And unfortunately," the Swordsman growled quietly, "anyone who falls for me, whom I am not in love with...dies."

Meekal raised an eyebrow. "Dies? What does that mean?"

"Dies. As in, no longer breathing. Heart ceases beating. Usually large amounts of blood loss involved. Dead. No longer living. They die." The green eyes were starting to spark.

"I know what the word means," Meekal stated softly. "I want to know how it corresponded to your not loving them in return." He was quiet a moment. "All this love talk is doing me no good."

"I do not know what causes it either, but I have noticed a definite pattern. I barely managed to save the Lady Josephine multiple times, and the same with the Lady Rosaline. All the rest...have met violent, untimely ends within days of...the change in attitude. And I agree that this talk is doing no good."

Rylus rode along in the middle of the group, the hood of his cloak pulled down over his brow from the drizzling rain.

"Not the happiest fellow is he?" Talmour asked, riding beside Rylus.

    "Who?" Rylus questioned.

    "The Swordsman."

"Ah yes, he does seem to be well not happy."

"Makes you wonder what your sister sees in him." Talmour nodded in agreement.

    "My sister?"

"Didn't you know? I don't know how long she has, but I've seen the way she looks at him. Or looked at him rather. He seemed to have pushed her away. Don't really know why." Talmour scratched his chin in thought.

"oh." Was all Rylus could say as he sat pondering that his sister liked or had liked the Swordsman.

"bleak weather." Talmour sighed, glancing up through the rain at the dark clouds over head.

"Aye, it is. I hope Rose is alright."

"Don't worry, that woman can handle anything."

Rylus smiled at the mention of his sisters persistant stubborness.

"Fine," Meekal heard himself say, then caught himself thinking of how much that sounded like Moon. "What do you have planned for this dragon hunt? What can I do?"

Now Nækos grinned, and another chill went down Meekal's spine. "Here is where it gets fun. My plan is to travel north as far as we can, and then turn around and travel back. I intend to live off of hunting and foraging for as long as possible, saving the food we brought along for when we reach the mountains. When we get halfway through the food, we will turn around and come back down, hopefully coming out of the mountains before we get too hungry, and then hunt again. With some luck, we may find some dragons on the way. What to do when we do find them, I really do not know. I will ask Ms. Dalmeiier more about that when we finally catch up to the gypsies. I will tell you what you can do when I know what any of us can do."

"Yeah," Meekal said weakly, "fun." What fun was it to wander around & hope they found dragons? He could think of a lot more things to do. One of them involved Moon. All right, they all did. And in her room...He shook his head violently this time, & cleared his throat. "Is there a chance we won't even find dragons? Then what?"

"If that is the case, then we will turn around and travel back, quite simply. I do not foresee us being gone more than a few weeks in any case." He rolled his eyes at the king's lack of enthusiasm for a desperate, questionable, and most likely suicidal endeavor. "Come now, your majesty, where is your optimism?"

"I left it in the stable," Meekal admitted. "But I suppose a 'few weeks' won't be too bad. I will have to get back soon enough, not just for Moon & the baby, but for the coronation." He shrugged. "Not that it will matter soon enough, but I want it done right."

"That is the one concern I have," Nækos admitted. "We do not know how long is left before the start of the invasion. However, if we can indeed use the dragons as a meter, as Crin suggested, we should have enough time left. And should the coronation not be according to your own schedule? It is your crown, after all."

"If the coronation was according to my schedule, I wouldn't be here. I'd be there. But here I am, going on a dragon hunt," Meekal stated, a little irritated. He didn't get enough sleep the night before, & he hardly ate before they left. And all he wanted to do was get out of the rain, & into the warm arms of the one he loved.

Tæbryn rode up beside Meekal from behind. "Sorry you had to leave Moon, Meekal...I'm glad you're along, though."

"Thanks," Meekal said, irritation leaving him. "But I'm not sure sure I'm glad you are along. If it's that dangerous, wouldn't she be unsafe, Nækos?"

Seemingly in response, Tæbryn stood up on her mount, then hopped lightly from the saddle and onto the rump of Meekal's mount, still holding onto a reighn. Nækos' eyes went wide for an instant, then recovered.

"She is not pregnant," he explained, carefully metering his breathing back to normal, "and she needs experience. There is also nobody I would trust leaving her to back in Arconia." Tæbryn gave him a perplexed look in response, but said nothing.

"But you trust someone to take care of Moon?" Meekal sighed, not wanting to get upset again. "Never mind..." His shoulders slumped as he stared hard in the direction they traveled, intent to just get this over with. "Can't we go any faster?" he muttered.

"Moon has her sister, do not forget. And yes, we could go faster, if you want to exhaust our mounts immediately, and then be forced to walk, making us move much slower." Nækos was also beginning to think this would be quite a long trip.

"Yes," Meekal snapped, "the sister who until very recently hated her. The sister she thought was dead for many years, only to find out that same sister was alive & well, & doing what she could to hurt her & her friends," Meekal shook his head, & took several steading breaths. He hated to be angry, or frustrated. He tried to focus on something, anything else. To Tæbryn, he said, "Have you ever been to a coronation?"
