Array Classical fencing in NYC I know, I know.... this is not my idea.
A friend of mine in NYC is interested in classical fencing and is looking for a school. I would love the opportunity to fence at NYAC or Fencer's club, but they're not really what he is looking for. If you guys know of any decent classical fencing in NYC, please let me know.
Note: Please don't flame about classical fencing in this thread, it doesn't interest me any more than it does most anyone else here, I'm just trying to help a friend out that is interested in it for historical value, not competition. Methix

Array I've heard good things about this place (as far as classical fencing goes). http://www.martinez-destreza.com/
And I think they are in New York.

I have no personal experience and have not even heard second or third hand stories about this place but in NYC there is "MARTINEZ ACADEMY OF ARMS"
They are all classic fencing.
here's the web address: http://www.martinez-destreza.com/
Class Meeting Times
Monday & Wednesday, 6:00 pm to 9:45 pm
Studio KHDT, 330 Broome Street (half a block east of the Bowery), Manhattan, NYC.
I'd call first.

Array Yeah, I looked at that site a little. Unfortunatly, I don't personally know anything about them. The only thing that seemed a little strange is all the emphasis on Maestro so-and-so, Maître d'Armes such-and-such. Maybe that's just a difference of classical fencing, I'm just used to a more casual environment where we refer to our coaches by first names.
Thanks for the input, if anyone has any personal experience, please let me know. Methix

Thanks for the input, if anyone has any personal experience, please let me know. It is just a matter of maintaining a more formal approach to salle ettiquette. Ramon Martinez and Jeanetta Acosta-Martinez have a good reputation in the classical and historical fencing world. Chris Umbs, who sometimes posts here, is a student there. A couple of other Fencing.net posters have attended seminars and tournaments organized by Martinez and were favorably impressed.
