Banter-free threads

Hi!

Some time ago, there was a thread in which the thread starter asked for specific suggestions on how to run a smooth competition. Topic drift set in, and the thread starter tried to keep the thread on track. He then got critizised for just that, by posters who appearently thought that aimless banter is all fun and dandy.

I disagree entirely with that sentiment.

I think that it were better if a thread starter could have an option of marking his/her thread as a "asking for specific answers"-thread, and then become moderator of that thread. This marking should obviously be clear to everyone, so that prospective banterers can redirect their energy to water cooler, or better yet, start their own banter threads.

Then, those of us who prefer information threads with as few jokes and as little topic drift as possible can read threads specifically for us, while the banter folks can get their fill - but not in the same place.

Craig, if this is doable with a reasonable effort, please consider it.

Have a nice time!
