Array Crescent City Open Coming soon, March 27-28, New Orleans.
I was somewhat impressed with the sheer number of epeeists preregistered (as of this posting), with 89 total, albeit only 7As and 12Bs. (via askfred.net)
And then I saw mixed foil with 121 total ... of which 48 are unrated. Yeesh.
What have been the reviews of this event in previous years? Is it run well, or is it one of those that lasts until 1:30 in the morning? -

Array I've got a couple questions. Is there anyboy going from anywhere nearby(tristate area)? If so, what kinda ways do they get there, and at what cost. Thanks. -

Array I am a little bias since I am one of the organizers of the Crescent City Open.
The tournament normally runs very well. In the past several years we have never had a midnight finish. Last year we were done by 8Pm (as in the, competition was over, the strips were picked up & we were having beers)
There was a plumbing problem last year. A city water main broke Friday afternoon so we were water less, we got bottle water and portable toilets (a bit gross) and everything went well. This year the venue is an indoor tennis center at the Downtown Hilton Hotel. We willl have 16 strips set up, at least 10 of them metalic. We have a USFA staff person running the even on the computer so things should run pretty smooth.
The best feature of this tournament is that it is in New Orleans. Fun place!
Lose youe DE, head to the french quarter, who needs a metal when ya' got beads!
Hope to see you there (ah, here)

Array Sounds like it'll be a fun tournament. Myself along with a collection of other Ole Miss students will be competing there. RebelFencer's Awesome Quote of the Week:

This is usually the best regional tournament in the Southwest in any given year. I highly recommend the trip, even if you have to drive in 8+ hours. I'd be keen to know who they're flying in this year to boost saber to an A2, aside from the obligatory Bill Becker. It came out of what men were, but it did not go as men had planned. Crescent City is one of the Circuit Cup events for the Southwest Section, so, yes. Geographically speaking, one wouldn't think so, until one reflects that the center of the US fencing universe is more-or-less in some wheat field outside Hartford, Connecticut. Practically everything is "Southwestern" when everyone you meet at every single NAC is from Boston/NYC/Jersey/Philly. It came out of what men were, but it did not go as men had planned. The Longhorn Open is never terribly large and (sadly) tournaments at UT are prone to administrative problems. The DeGall is nice, but so late in the season that you have a hard time getting people to come out for it. It's pretty much Crescent City at #1 with a bullet in the Southwest Section, with the Rose Condon trying very hard to get up there. It came out of what men were, but it did not go as men had planned. Array So you're saying Texan organizers really suck? -
I wouldn't go that far, wiseass. I'd just say that Texas is pretty fencing-barren for its size and population, and that Crescent City is maybe the US's biggest regional tournament. Have you seen the signup list? Bigger than NACs by far. It came out of what men were, but it did not go as men had planned. The Almighty had his own purposes. -
Geographical center of US. fencing Hi! Has anyone done any calculation/good estimate on this? Would not California drag the fencing center-of-gravity a bit more southwest? I t would be fun to play around with some numbers here.
Have a nice time!

Purely rhetorical. More of a, have you seeeeeeeeen it? But that's nice detective work there. It came out of what men were, but it did not go as men had planned. The Almighty had his own purposes. -

Array The CCO is a level of event between any sectionals and NAC's. The NO folks do a great job of putting this together and running it. I guess they do have an advantage due to the fact it's New Orleans but the tournament is great.
I too wish Mike Jr could show up this year for the sabre event but he is busy being an actor in Hollywood. Good luck Mike, you will be missed. -

Array I'd like to fence the Crescent City, but there is no way I can afford to since I just bought a house.... maybe next year. ... without remorse for the past, confident in the present, and full of hope for the future, [d'artagnan] went to bed and slept the sleep of the brave.

Array Does any one have any results? -

Array I saw this to late to ask ahead of time, but, do they still wheel Chris Trammell and maybe even Marty Johnson out for this one? "Let him live upon what belongs to him without wronging others, and accommodate his expense to his revenue."
