Just curious if there's been any discussion of where next year's Summer Nationals would likely be held. Has there been any talk of bids submitted (or awarded) yet?

Some small rumors (or rumblings) about having it in San Jose/Santa Clara area of California.

and while we're at it...
does anyone have any comments that will make the 2005 nationals better for the committee planing it?
feedback from people that have already been to the 2004 nationals would be most appreciated.
:P
What would be really useful is to ask those who have attended the 2006 Nationals about how the 2006 was better or worse than the 2005. Then, we can fix the 2005 before all the crises happen.

I can still clearly remember what they said before we even had a Summer Nationals event: "I predict 2004 will be a key year. We can't see it now, so many decades away, but just wait -- a lot of important stuff will be decided just months before the 2004 competition."
it'd be nice for me to get an NAC on the east coast. . . But it seems like that just doesn't happen with the USFA

Convention space here == expensive, remember? Convention spaces in Texas == cheap, because no one wants to be in Texas. Especially exercizing in the summer.
You say that it is a custom, but you should be mindful that the Lord said "I am the truth and life." (Jn. 14:6) He did not say "I am the custom," but "the truth." - Ivo of Chartres (1040-1115)
yeah that's true, but I still don't like it!!!!![]()

You'd think it would be even cheaper in Iowa or Idaho.
Other desirables that USFA requires/prefers include an experienced group of local volunteers, convenient air transportation to location, nice-sized convention space with nearby hotel.
I don't think Idaho or Iowa (or a number of other possible ones, for that matter) have the local support or the convenient flights or the convention space with sufficiently sized nearby hotel(s).

One day- in the distant future- There should be a Summer Nationals in Hawaii. That way, I can enjoy the sun after the events. Maybe I'll even break out the speedo... If the FOC can handle refs in speedos...
I also support East Coast NACs, lol. I guess Charlotte is as good as it is gonna get.

how about nationals in guam. i think that sounds good.
EVERYONE gets screwed there...
Except for all of those USFA members who originate from Guam. Take em a few hours to get anywhere on the island.Originally Posted by MyrddinsPrecint

2004 Charlotte Nationals was considered the best ever and the model every nationals should try to uphold to in the future. In fact it was so good there is a movement in the fencing community to have it there every year.
Seriously, it would be interesting to know where it will be in 2005.
I would be all for a Hawaii nationals but if people are complaining about the weather in past Texas events during the summer you people would die in Hawaii. Again, I am all for it but most of you would suffer immeasureably.
Just curious, when nationals are in Hawaii, can we do the outdoor championships again? Then the winners teammates could throw them in the ocean when they win.
Outdoors? but there's like, natural light out there. And I'm all for a nat'l in NE because then I can go... Manchester, NH perhaps. It has cheap convention space and an airport. And it dosn't regularly pass 100 F in the summer. Plus, NE is one of the largest divisions in terms of members, so there's the experience! Of course, then we'd have to go to NH...

Agree, NE has the greatest number of competitors and you can get flights to many different airports. It is about time a Summer Nationals is held in the NE. I am sure there are plenty of venues. If the flights are cheap or you can drive to the venue I do not mind paying more for venue.
PS Hawaii is not real hot in the summer. But I do not know how many families will shell out the money and the extra time to fly there.
i think we can all get together beforehand and kidnap them all, and scatter them to remote portions of the US so that they can have to travel long distances as well....Originally Posted by KShan5[PrFC]
and, yes, people can throw each other into the ocean. just, not until all the electric gear comes off : )
pity to waste money buying new gear when the stuff you HAS was freaking lucky!!
Hawaii has a nice ocean breeze year round, and there's always a smattering of rain almost every day (and a consequential rainbow, which is why it's the rainbow state). It's not hot and humid like a summer in NY or even Boston.Originally Posted by dekko
Of the two, I'd prefer to go to Hawaii. And if we can get tickets at under $400/RT from anywhere in the US, I think you can get the largest turn-out for the Summer Nationals in Hawaii.
