Array With the foil changes looming, is it worth buying a new complete foil now? My foil broke last week, and I intend to buy a complete FIE rated foil to replace it. However, would you advise this, as the changes to the specifications may take place soon, would it be difficult to modify, were the specifications to change? Would it just be a tip replacement, or are blade specs changing too?
Hurrah for the foil changes by the way, go FIE! There are no boundaries in love, there are no boundaries in Rock 'n' Roll -

Array IF the changes go through they'll just be to the tip. It's still in the test phase...in fact, it hasn't even begun. Heck, the tips aren't even designed yet! Go ahead & buy the blade you want. It'll take a while for the FIE to make up it's mind. -

Array A bunch of my clubmates and I were discussing this with one of my coaches. He had the view that even a lot of the changes that get tested in international junior events don't make it to the world stage.
Really, the worst that happens is you need to rewire it. No biggie. -

Array buy your foil now. IF the changes go through it will be next year, and by that time you'll probably have to rewire the weapon anyway. . . Homestarrunner forever!~!

i do not know much about foil, but with the new tip, would the threading be changed in such a way that you need to buy new foil blades just to accomodate the new tip? -

Array I would fly to Paris and personally burn down the house of Rene Roch if I had to buy new blades for the new tips. Homestarrunner forever!~!

Array Yes. Anyway, the FIE just loves to make regulations, so they probly have one for tip threads, too.
Actually, I'd guess at an industry standard, since Uhlmann tips work on a BG blade, etc. Seems like a silly thing to change. And chances are that the blade will break before you need to care, anyway. Array There is a thread size standard for Foil 3.5 x 0.60 (M.12.4) Donald Hollis Clinton, Jr. DHCJr@juno.com

Array Excellent.
Thank you everyone for the advice, I will now go and buy a foil. I've ust been fencing for four hours (2 clubs back to back), with whatever foils i could get my hands on, which was a bit awkward, so I'm glad you've all recommended for me to buy one now.
Thanks again.
