interchangeable parts

I have a question. At our club, some foil parts are Russian, German, Chinese.......and NONE of them seem to be interchangeable. How do you guys tell the difference? What do you tell fencers that present stuff to be fixed if they have a weapon whose parts are not stored by the club?

Generally paqrts are not interchangable due to differing sizes. For example...the French & Chinese "French" screws are VERY different in size. And even within the same pattern there are differances. Sport 7 French foil screws should not be used iwth Prieur french foil points...the screws are different lengths due to different barel thicknesses.

Telling the differance: French: screws thread into the collar. Spring's long & slim. German: screws thread into the barrel. Spring's short & squat.

What to tell fencers: Have a good supply of all parts on hand in their kit...and make sure they're all the same point design from the same vendor.

And nake sure all of the club equipment is standardized so that you don't have to maintain various "similar but not quite the same" parts (easier said than done - I eventually had to replace all the epee tips and collect all of the old parts)
