    Adidas Classic "BLUE" Fencing Shoes.

Adidas is selling it's Classic Fencing Fencing Shoes that many people have talked about. Go to Adidas USA, then have a look at their ADIDAS ORIGINAL SHOES. There is a classic fencing shoe for sale at $100 a pair, in either Blue or Promotional Gold. For those of you who want to be different but use a shoe with Adidas quality, this may be it.

    Blast from the past.

Some of the best years of my life were spent in shoes that looked like this. Are they trying to sell our nostalgia back to us? ...Is this a Volkswagon Beetle ploy? Why revive?

    Fashion.

The style right now for fashion athletic shoes are thin soled shoes with rounded heels. Usually in suede with a variety of colors.

Well, if it looks cool to wear fencing shoes in the street, I guess we're all going to be trend setters ;-).

I think the next big thing in terms of shoe fashion is going to be wearing shoes with a hole in the rear foot. Soon we'll all see people doing footwork in the street.

When I was in spain all the shoes looked like fencing shoes. I even saw a pair of d'arts in a regular shoe shop for 65 euros.

Wow! They've even brought back the little gripper holes in the soles.

The blue used to be "french adidas" and the gold "german adidas". The blue had gum soles while the gold had the harder rubber like in the pic above.

That's not quite correct. The blue was the German Adidas. The red/pink/purple was the French Adidas. The main difference was that the German Adidas had a narrower last. Those with wide feet would use the French Adidas. The toe top design was also different between the German and French. The German had that vertical piece of (faux?) leather going from the toe tip to the start of the lacing area. The French didn't.

Sorry, I've still got a pair of the Gold germans. I'm talking about from the mid seventies. Guarantee you the french were blue w/ gum soles.
the soles of the french were also rippled instead of that star shape and the label on the blue was in french, gold in german.

Never saw the other colors til late 80s or nineties.

Ah, but the "classic" Adidas fencing shoe shown is from the 1984 Olympics. There were the really old gold Adidas which were German-made, and was the precursor for the 1984 blue Adidas. There were the blue Adidas with the flat blue sole, which was also German, AFAIK.

Well, there you go. I was just pleased to see the old sole on them.

I guess I never figured something that came along 10 years later would be called the "classic"...

1984 was the year I bought my last pair of the old gold germans. They were out of production but one of the vendors at nationals had one pair left. My size. Needless to say......

RE: the German blue adidas...came in both low and the 1st high top
shoe (had removable hard nylon inserts for ankle support), I think next
were the green stripe, and next purple and then black...Weren't they
all the "Reposte" model...high or low top? Also, the blue stripe shoes
were available in a white sole or a special blue sole designed for metallic
strips and longer life. The French shoes were gold and red striped I believe.

Actually they came out with two sets of white w/blue striped high-tops. One with ankle support and one without. I had bought the cheaper pair at nationals one year and traded them the next day for the ones with the stiffeners. Big difference, especially if you have bad ankles.

So, reminiscing aside - how are they as a shoe?

If they make them like they were making 25-30 years ago, I wouldn't get anything else. 'cept now I have bad ankles and need the high tops.

One of our coaches just ordered herself a pair...she tried to get three - but they didn't have stock...swears by them - but wait and see if they are as good now as they were "then"

Honestly, I used to have a pair of the old riposte, and I didn't care much for them. They are very solid and will last a long time, but the sole is really hard and I used to get knee pain whenever I would fence with them. Being that I was a teenager at the time, it was kind of scary, come to think of it.

I haven't had any of that sort of pain with the assymetrics.

The original blue stripes had much more structure to the build of
the shoe...as time progressed Adidas shoes became "softer" and
flimsy. The only shoe(low top) I've worn that comes close to the
Adidas orinigal models is an Italian shoe made by Viktoria. I have
a pair now and like them.

BTW I ordered a pair of the Blue stripe Adidas yesterday and they
had plenty of stock in my size...10.5. Thanks for the heads up Leung!

Would they be worth it for $100? It seems a little steep but I guess thats around the same price as the D'arts?

When I went to the site I got this message: "We're sorry, but our selection does not include fencing products. Please check back because we update our selection frequently." Are they out or is there some other way to find them than searching for fencing?
