Halts, Fencers falling down, etc Ok a couple questions. I looked in the rules but no I didnt see anything concrete.
If fencer A attacks fencer B, and in the process fencer A falls down, but lands the touch. Does the touch count?
Next one
Is the halt on the action or on the word. The rules say its on the "word". Or thats what I got out of it. I've heard a director or two say that its the action. So if I see something and a fencer scores before I spit out the word "halt", does it count? What I've been told is that it would not since what I was halting for happened before the touch landed.
whatcha think? -

Array Falling down - most directors won't allow it but that may change with the FIE's elimination of the falling yellow card.
the Halt - Officially the halt comes when you Mean to say halt, not when the word actually pops out of your mouth. This is what they say at the refree clinics I have been in, the coach's college, and in personal conversations with various folks.
As George K said once, If you happen to cough when you meant to say halt it doesn't allow another action. If you give a man a fire, he is warm for the night.

Actually, it depends on where you are fencing, and the ref. At world cups, no one cares if you fall. And if you fall, but stay balanced, like the splits for example, that's not considered a loss of balance, and is therefore not penalized. Refs in the US are a different matter. Except for the few who ref interantionally on a regular basis, they will penalize you for falling.
The FIE rule change is merely following the current enforcement of the refs. Hopefully, the US won't be too far behind in making this change. We're no threat, people, we're not dirty, we're not mean

Array Masterfulks- If the card is given then the touch is annulled. If the card isn't given (it's FIE rather than USFA competition, the ref decides not to give the card, whatever) then the touch is good. The penalty charts denote which penalties also result in the annulling of touches. Basically those infractions that could help you score the touch (falling, reversing shoulders in foil, crossing over in sabre, parrying with the unarmed hand, etc.).

Array Does this change mean the flying fleche will be able to make a comeback? -

Array No. Uncontrolled and dangerous actions are still verboten. Similar Threads -
