She sighed and shook her head.

"You're no fun Nękos. Fine, I want you to dance with me." She didn't pause for him to object or add anything, "Nothing more, just a dance. I figure this just might be one of our last peacefull nights for a very long time. Most everyone else has someone to dance with except for us. Not to mention, I think it might do us both some good."

She crossed her arms infront of her, and hunched her shoulders a little. She'd been gone off and on for so long that she had forgotten how cold Arconian nights could get.

The dead-flat reply: "And what of Talmour Gideon?" The Swordsman could not help but remember the endings to his last two dances: Ledgerto's death and Serana's flight.

Rosaline's jaw dropped in shock at first, her look then turned to that of counfusion.

"What of Talmour Gideon?" She replied wondering where that had come from.

"Aye he is, but I heard talk of the gypsies leaving to go to bed as I was coming out here."
She sighed again and leaned her back against the tree, watching the rising moon.
"For one night Nękos can you just forget everything? Or at least put it aside? Forget that you're the leader of the Strike Force, and forget all of your past. Please?"

Nękos performed the same maneuver he had when talking to Tębryn, pushing himself up and then dropping down from the branch. From here he walked slowly to Rosaline, making her pulse accelerate just a bit, thinking perhaps he would take her up on the request. He stopped approximately six inches away.

"Alright, I'll forget about my position for the time being. Now, about my past... Let's see. We could start, I suppose, with the incessant beatings I received on the street as a child. Of course, those lessened quite a lot as I learned to fight. How about the incident in the old forge," he held up his right hand, covered in long, thin scars, "where they dripped the liquid iron down my hand? Some of it actually cooled there, you understand. Had to be chipped off. I think a few of these bones might have a bit of metal on them yet. Sure, I can probably forget those for a little bit. But how about all the people I have killed? Hundreds. Can I please forget them? Ah, how I wish. Every night I wish I could forget them, but I can't. Do you know, if you wanted, I could sit down with a quill and paper and draw in exquisite detail the face of every single person I killed, in its last second of life? Now, ask me again to forget my past. I dare you."

"I never wanted to see you again," Moon said, her voice barely above a whisper. Her eyes darkened as she glared at him. "You chose your acting over me. You wanted to travel. You were perfectly happy to go. So go...now..." Holden looked, briefly, like he did not know what to say. Instead, he simply nodded, & faded into the crowd. Meekal did not know what to say either. He took her hand. "Please, can we do something else now?" she asked him.

"Yes, of course." He nodded to the musicians, who began to play their tunes again. "Would you care to dance?"

"No good ever comes of dancing," Moon muttered, thinking back to balls past...including the one where she lost Holden forever...Then, as he watched her, she turned to Meekal & said, "I would love to." Together, they stood, & all made way for the bride & groom.

She nodded, her eyes never leaving his. Silently, she watching him for a moment, resting a hand on his arm.

"Humor me Nękos? One dance is all I ask, nothing more. After that you can come back out here and become a shadow or go home or whatever it is you do. Just dance with me?" Her eyes remained locked on his.

"I ask you again. Why not Talmour? That they were thinking of leaving is a poor reason; you have not yet asked, nor verified that they are in fact leaving, nor confirmed that he is yet gone."

Rosaline took a breath, trying to compose herself.

"Because I don't want to dance with Talmour, I don't even know him!" She snapped back. She took in another deep breath of cold air to compose herself fully. Reaching down, she took his hand in hers. "Please just dance with me Nękos?"

Nękos looked calmly down at his hand in Rosaline's, then suddenly loosed it with a snap and clasped his hands behind him.

"I had hoped you got the idea at least by the time we left the summit in the Disputed Regions. As I have said, I do not for an instant trust your emotions or judgement. And so, my answer is no."

"I'm not asking for that!" She grumbled and threw a hand back through her hair. "I'm aware of your feelings alright? As I am my own, and I'm dealing with them. I'm not asking to dance with you as a step up. I'm oo I'm just asking as a friend! Why can't you give me your friendship?"

"As a friend," he responded with perfect calm, "I care about what happens to you. As a friend, I also do not trust you. And so, as a friend, I still say no."

Senyik looked briefly around the room at all the various people dancing, and it occurred to him that he should be, too.

He turned to Miri. "Come, love. Let us dance."

Miri smiled back at him, and laid her hand on his arm. "I would love to."

They walked slowly out to the dancing area, turning towards each other, and then beginning the slow dance. Miri was glad to have had so many dancing lessons. Now, she could ignore what her feet were doing, and just enjoy the dance.

"That was an...interesting...toast that Nękos gave, wasn't it?" Meekal asked, one arm around her & opposite hand in hers. He tried to distract her from her distraction across the room.

"Yes..." she mumbled. Her jumbled thoughts added his words to the swirl in her mind. Terrible times were coming, as early as the next morning. She would be without Meekal, & that thought seemed difficult to bear. She looked around, & said, "Where did he go?"

"He left." Meekal shrugged. He smiled, but still noticed her frown. "Are you all right?"

"Yes...I just need some air." She kissed his cheek & stepped away from him. "It's so stuffy in here with all these people. And I think Ken-Dall & Darion want to be alone. I will return in a few minutes." Moon stepped away, out the door.

Meekal watched her back, then turned to get a drink. Unbeknownst to him, Holden had watched her go, & had followed.

"So, my love," Senyik began as they circled slowly around the floor, "what are your thoughts of this evening?"

"Oh, not much. I enjoyed the ceremony...I have never been to a human wedding before. Meekal and Moon look wonderful together, even when both of them were just recovering from being kidnapped." She glanced up at them. "And you? What is on your mind, my love?"

    "...weddings..." Senyik responded slowly, carefully.

"Weddings? Not just this one then?" Her eyes sparkled with laughter as she smiled up at him.
