I'd like to earn a rating, I'm currently unclassified, but to do so I obviously need to go to a USFA tournament. I have been unable to find a listing on the web of such events. I live in southern New England, so I'm only concerened with that area, but I would like to know where I can get a list of tournaments; not the national stuff, i just want a USFA rating. If anyone knows where I can find such a list, please do tell.
On the side bar, click on where can I fence? Then click on the state you're interested in. Not every division or section has a website but a lot of the clubs do. You should either find a list of tournaments or, at a minimum, telephone numbers for folks you could call.
Sorcroft-
You mention being in Southern NE. The Connecticut division schedule is online at: http://www.candlewoodfencing.com/schedule.htm and the New England division website uses frames so I won't bother giving the URL of the schedule page, but go to http://www.neusfa.org and click on "schedule and results".
I believe that CT div only has national qualifiers left for the rest of the season, but if that's where you're a member you could go and fence those. Unlikely to get the 15 people required to give out more than an E, but well, that's what you get. New England you have a couple of tournaments left and they're likely to be above 15 entries. No more open events left until the Harvey Kerner sabre in CT and the Pomme de Terre in NE both in June.
There're also events in Hudson-Berkshire division if you're near Western Mass. that are worth going to to get ratings. While most of H-B is in NY Berkshire Buccaneers in Dalton, MA might be close enough to you.
Hopefully that'll give you somewhere to start. Good luck in your quest for a rating. BTW, where do you fence (what club)?

To answere your Q's:
Yes, I'm a member of the USFA.
I've been fencing off and on for about four years.
I live in RI, and I used to belong to the Island Fencing Acadamy and Club, but don't anymore(got more expensive). I still fence there occasionaly, not much. I do most of my fencing at my high school now, dry. No $ for electric equipment(reels, scoring machine, etc).
Looked at NE's web site, list of compititions, and didn't see anything "E" or "novice" or even "D"(I think an E is what I'm looking for now).
Anything listed as Novice or E or D means that and below are allowed to enter, not what rating will be awarded. What ratings are given out has to do with how many people enter and what their ratings are.
You can still earn an E at an open, you will just face stiffer competition usually. Depending upon the number and quality of people entering you may only have to be in the top 6 for an E.
Sorcroft-
You missed the 'E' events last week, NE div has 'D' events 4/8 at Scituate Stars (directions should be available at the divisional website), and Div II/III quals (so 'C' and under events) 5/6 at Boston Fencing Club (directions also on website). Then there's the novice events 5/20 at Worcester Fencing Club. Then the Pomme de Terre with both Open and unclassified divisions 6/23-4 (probably opens 6/23, U's 6/24).
That's what, 5 events in the remainder of the season? Including a 'D', a 'C', a novice, an open and a 'U'? You just need to look a little harder next time. Easiest way would've just been to ask Alex or Jill sometime at the club, I'm sure they could have pointed you to all of these events.
Hope this helps.

Call some USFA clubs and ask about tournament schedules. If you can travel, call some out of state USFA clubs. The USFA website has contact information for all affiliated clubs.
