    Epee Blades

I've just broken a third epee blade. All from allstar. Broke the first one back in February of this year. Keep in mind I normally fence saber, so I don't use them alot...
SO! I'm in the market for a different Electric epee blade.
    Any moderately priced suggestions?

    Hurricane Floyd blades from Blade!
$7 each and the two I bought back while Floyd was still in the news haven't broken yet. (Knock on epee-fencers-head)

OK they are out of them. But they do have Chinese blades for $7
For someone with the wisdom to fence sabre, you should be able to make these last.

What's your definition of "moderately priced"?

Triplette is dumping their F-L electric épée blades for 15 USD ea. or 10 for 120 USD. You could break 4 or 5 before you reached the cost of one Allstar non-FIE blade.

They may not be the most durable (although between my son and me, we've only broken one in the last six months, and we each fence about three times a week).

They're not bad for handling, although I prefer my BF blade for feel and weight, and the price is right.

I'm not crazy about the cheaper Fleche blades (a lot of straightening is required), and I'd avoid any cheap Chinese blades.

WKC blades have been very durable and handle similarly to the F-L blades but are a bit heavier. They cost 31 USD from Triplette.

The FL epee blades seem to have avaoided whatever is plauging the FL foil blades. I have several that I have been using and they last a long time. A year or so a relativly active fencing before breakage.

If you're breaking Allstar blades that quickly it's probably not the blades at fault. Go find whatever the cheapest you can are until it stops happening, then go back to higher quality blades. Until then, stop lunging in your counter attacks.....

No, Allstar blades really are bad. I have broken several of them, even one while I was taking a lesson! They broke right at the tang, inside the grip, and I am using a french grip. These blades are stiff and heavy (german stuff) but even though they look rugged and solid, they are not and will break like glass.
    • Epee is the Louis Vuitton bag of fencing: only the best can get it, and the rest of the masses must content themselves with cheap knockoffs (sabre, foil)
    • To not recognize the power of the French grip is to be in denial

There do seem to be a significant number of complaints about non-maraging BF (which are sold as Uhlmann and Allstar) blades as of recent. One person from my club had a non-maraging Uhlmann foil blade that lasted 3 months (and this is not someone prone to excessively hard, close hits).

Thanks Dave (Neevel), and everyone else for posting your advice. I'm not known for heavy hitting with an epee. If anything, I get rebuffed for not following thru in riposte.
So I don't think i have been heavy handed or abusive of these blades, The allstar blade is beefy and stiff compared to most others used by epee people at our club.
Also. Dave (Neevel) please tell Joe B. that Keith Herbrechtsmeier seez hello. Keith fences at our Kenosha club.
