The tactics really depend on my opponent. Are they most comfortable with long distance? If so, then I'll work to compress it and be inside their comfort zone. Do they like to compress and infight? If so then I'll draw them in, expand distance and take over the action from there.
The basis of all of it becomes small, quick steps that allow me to accelerate or change direction quickly.

well, if I play a match, I always or, mostly, let the other fencer make the first attack, to see what his tactics are, and then I adjust myself to the situation. Sometimes, is stab on the foot, and when my opponent figures that out and parries against it, you just use another tactic, like advance lunge after you threatend to stab on the foot because then his weapon's facing the ground. Thats my tactis, adjust to the situation.

| I used to be a really defensive fencer always retreating. But now I've worked so hard to change that I find myself very aggresive. Sometimes, I have to remind myself that I am very comfortable on the retreat as well.
Also, as for the distance, I tend to like to fence from a longer distance. But that is mainly due to the fact that I have a very weak flick. I find the longer distance tends to give less opportunity for either fencer to flick.
Unlike Craig, I can definitely say that I am not comfortable in all situations. So, Rather than playing the opposite of my opponents game; I often try to lure my opponent into the game I am most comfortable with. However, like I said, this is me trying to avoid situations that I know I don't perform well in.

Rolls. | I'm not comfortable in all situations either - I just have fenced enough to learn how to make do. My defense is probably the weakest aspect of my game, so I really on very strong counter-offense to make up for it. I can usually force my opponent into something that I want them to do by getting into the distance that they don't like and a lot of that keys off of disrupting their ability to attack by either being tight with the distance, or drawing them to chase and get off balance.
I really need to do like Walter and write some of these tactics up again and get them into something that makes sense when read.
