| Hey, we just posted a great article from Walter on the implications for foil. Give me some time to do the editing and other stuff to get the other content out the door.

| Excellent; much appreciated. The recently posted article was indeed very interesting, even as a none-foil fencer.
I remember years ago when I would come to this site and read all the information available, not even realizing there were forums. I would come back from time to time but it seemed sparsely updated, then I discovered the forums and that stopped mattering.
The site has really gotten alot more prolific, it's very impressive
Keep it up.

If you must know, this great community is really a product of my lazyness!
Here's the story (and those of you who are writers will understand).
I started Fencing.Net after looking at the rec.sport.fencing newsgroup posts and realizing that there wasn't really all that much fencing knowledge out there. I've got notebooks with tons of drills from my college and post-college training days, so I decided to start posting those up on a site and include some information on fencing.
Then, I started adding a links directory to fencing clubs. - some more traffic started coming in.
Then I added a mailing list so that I could just email my update to subscribers while posting it.
After a while I got more busy and didn't have time to really update the site. At the same time I was getting a number of fencing questions via email and figured that if people were coming to the site, then maybe they would post in a discussion board.
So, I created the forums and took a break from my own writing to let other people do it for a while.
The result is that a great community developed here, but I was receiving feedback that while the community was nice, people wanted to see articles and news outside of the forums. That, combined with finding a few writers and other people to share ideas with, led me to revamping the site to what it is now.
My ongoing goal is to get updated stories from around the US and world fencing scenes, but I'm going to have to work to build up the "street cred" of Fencing.Net with that side of the fencing community and get people to submit content to fencing.net like they do for American Fencing (although I have no idea how many submissions they get, or if they're also scrambling to fill up the editorial space.)

| Eric - I wish!
I do make some money from the DVD sales, but just like Michael at FencingFootage, I'm plowing that money right back into site development and production of more DVD titles.
I have a full time job that pays the bills and a very understanding wife that lets me have an hour or two each night to work on various parts of the site (back end stuff, emails to coaches/fencers lining up articles and interviews, actual writing, etc.)

| Craig,
Don't think we don't appreciate it. The site is great, and all of your hard work really shows. To borrow something from the "elite fencers" discussion, maybe they can add a check box for "donate $5 to Fencing101.com" on the next USFA form. What do you think? ;-) |

| Not that it would affect me - me being Cdn - I think that's a darn good idea.
Craig,
Speaking for myself, i don't mind if you got a bit more ads, afterall, ads are like the proverbial double-edged sword: it can be annoying, but it also be informative.
This site has furthered my knowledge of fencing and let me share some of what little I know.
Your effort has been greatly appreciated by MOI.
Thank you,
PK
BTW, I go the foil DVD on Monday. This time the gov't dinged me CAD10 for taxes plus $5 handling fees!!!!

| CDN VAT PKT - Did that have to do with how I filled out the customs form, or the fact that I included an invoice in the package? What prompted them to hit you with VAT this time around?
