- Ah, yes. I'll be slowly going LP FIE, mostly, as well. Starting with some knickers, I think, and then a jacket more towards the end of the summer. I really liked the team uniform from looking at it. It helps a little that my club has a discount with them.
Yeah, the X-changes look kinda weird. But I haven't worn a mask that even slightly compares. You need to wear one for a while to get it. It's the coolest, lightest, and most comfortable mask there is. Even the LP FIE Contour fit isn't quite as good. It's not as cool or light, because there's more padding contacting your head.
I can also hear people really well with it on, because my ears aren't covered. After fencing for a while in this mask, I took it off, and I noticed that I wasn't significantly cooler without the mask.
Being able to wash all the padding in it and the bib is pretty much just the icing on the cake, in my opinion.
Personally, I think it's well worth it.
As far as Div 2 goes, I still like them pretty well, because at the moment they have their challenges, with some parts being easy and some being harder. A part of that comes from when I got completely butcher at Opens, but I do a lot better in those now. I definitely want to start doing Div 1 when I can. Nothing can make you better than getting completely slaughtered. And who knows? Maybe I wouldn't do too badly. - Also, I just got an LP X-change mask... It is Mankind's single greatest invention. It's amazing in every way.
- Well, I guess I'll have to go, then... Getting there could be hard, though. I might be able to entice a friend of mine to go up, if we can get a few people going with.
To be honest? I don't really want to be better than a C, yet. I want to go from C to A, when I'm ready for it.
I want to fence Div 1 and 2 for a while. Having a B seems to me, like you can no longer fence Div 2, but you're still not an A and your life just sucks.
Well, that's exaggerated. But I may need to be a B for a while, if I'm going to be the best. *sigh* The things I'm willing to put up with.
But the way at the open I was ahead of all the D's and E's it seems like Div 3 might be behind me, now. I just need to get a little more consistent. - Hopefully... I need a C first, but depending on the competition at the Junior event, that might be doable, or possibly at the tournament directly following fencing camp.
My goal is to definitely have one by March, so I can compete in the next Portland NAC.
When's the Leon Auriol? I only started competing last November, I'm not familiar with it.
And of course, even though I start college, I plan to go to every tournament I can. I can do welding homework on the way. - Yeah. I wish I could get a do over. But honestly, if fencing was easy, I probably wouldn't do it. I need a challenge. Yet enough success to keep me wanting more.
Wes did really well, but if I had won my bout, I would have made him work for it, and work hard.
This just means that by the time the next Div 2 tournament comes around, I'll be more than ready for it.
Oh, and while I was fencing Kyle Wolfson, he made the worst mistake anyone that good has ever made, while fencing me.
He fleched at me, managed to miss me completely, and ran onto my point. - Yeah. Last Div 2 of the season. I know I can at least take top 3, but I keep screwing it up.
We'll see about the state games, I might have a decent shot at doing well in the Juniors.
When I fenced Robert, he was actually ahead 14-7, but I got kinda mad at myself, and just kept attacking. I got 3 touches in a row and then a double.
Looks like my past few weeks of working on attacking is paying off pretty well. I used to be completely unable to successfully execute an attack against someone. - Gah.
I did absolutely horrid in the DIV 2. 10th of 16. Took 8th out of the pools, and lost the bout 15-14.
I wasn't having a great day, I guess.
I did a lot better today. I took 15th out of the pools, won my first DE, and lost my second to Robert Greer at 15-11. 15th of 25, overall. Not bad, better than all the other E's and all the D's. - Definitely. The one guy better than me is a good coach, though. He helps a lot, and between him and the head coach, I seem to do pretty well.
Also, I get paid next week. I'm going to start fencing at the U of O, when I can. I'll see what help and can scrounge up, there, too.
And going to the summer epee camp, if I do, should help as well. - Yeah... I've thought about moving to Portland after college, for other reasons, but the fencing center would be a bonus, as long as I can avoid that kind of attitude. But they definitely are top notch, in general. Some of them just need a little more humility. As it is, in my club, I'm the second best epee fencer, and I'm one of only a few competetive fencers. If Dylan isn't around, I can go undefeated, almost every single time.
I'd really like to be a C so that I can fence Div 1 and 2. I think I'm pretty much good enough. I tend to be a little better than most other fencers my rating, and even some of those with higher ratings. - Good to hear. I talked to my coach about having more tournaments, and he said that before next years schedule gets put together by the OR division, we'd have a meeting and talk about it. I'm hoping to get at least two per year, more if possible.
And yeah, they do. You should have seen Robert Greer and Wade Withington's reactions when I beat them at the sectionals...
