  1. I wsn't aware of the sabre camp, but i will certainly check into it and talk with my mom, seems like a wonderful opportunity. It was great fencing your husband, Actually lost to him in my second DE, Dingle managed to severly bruise my thumb in my 2nd pool bout, (9 person pool!). Your husband is a great fencer and im sure ill see you all again soon, (im heading to mid-south sometime in februrary i believe). Ill probably into practice the friday night before the tournament. Hope you have a good holiday.
  2. Hi Lara,
James had a great time with you all on Saturday. Love the Nutcracker trophies. Did you know about the saber camp during the holidays at Midsouth. You can come for one day or all three. It is on Askfred.net under camps and clinics. Hope you have a wonderful break.

  3. Sorry i didn't get to see charlie fence, but heard he did a great job, see you at JO's. (going for epee suprisingly, going to train insanly hard for the next gew months)
  4. yes greg is our head coach and he does. He can get frusturated at times but its expected to happen. It seems as though we have very little sabre at our club unfortunatly. Well he started a sabre class a few weeks ago and the funny thing is it is evenly distributed between guys and girls. Most of the people at my club are older or a lot younger, i tend to hang out with and fence the college kids. I hope to run into your son sometimes when i start competing, it sounds like he is a great fencer. Always nice to meet someone else who is dedicated to the sport. Unfortunaly i can only fence 3-4 times a week, but i also practice at home. Its strange, but my fencing has actually improved since i got my own sabre with a lightweight hungarian grip. Its just a lot easier to menuver for feints and such. How long has charlie been fencing?
  5. Sounds like you are on the right track and your not crazy to want to fence so much. Charlie is 17. Between lessons and club he is at fencing 5 times a week. So see, not so crazy. We are fortunate to have a lot of different ages in our club for fencing, but it is nice when you have a strong support system around your own age. We are primarily a saber only club, although some epee fencers around NC State have started coming over and that always brings in a few other fencers of that weapon. Great hearing your updates and we're always happy to answer questions. I am assuming that Greg is you head coach. He seems to have infinite patience and is a real asset to the sport.
  6. I really hope to start competing soon. I think it would be great to meet more sabre fencers, considering that everyone seems to think im crazy for fencing so much, no one seems to understand that its pretty much addictive. My sabre is absolutly amazing and i love it! How old is your son. The only other sabre fencers i know are older, im 16, my typical partner is 21. And then there are two girls where i fence that fence sabre, but they dont fence to much at all. Which kind of stinks so normally im at a loss for a sabre partner considering my normal one often gets caught up with school. Sabre is definatly my favorite weapon though, after fencing it i cant seem to fence anything else.
  7. Charlie fences saber. So does my husband. Congratulations on getting your saber. It is a very exciting sport to be a part of. We have met people from all over the state, the southeast and all of the country. We have made many friends within the fencing world and seeing them at competitions is like the "icing on the cake". A little something extra. One of the good things about competing is making friends from other clubs.
  8. I intend on continuing fencing probably the rest of my life i hope. I started my sabre class last night. Im glad i just have a partner who supports me and doesn't let me get discouraged. In my opinion that is extremly important. Im getting my first sabre in a few hours when i go and pick it up so i am extremly excited. Its a Leon Paul custom Sabre. What weapons do your sons fence?
  9. Thank You so much for the advice. I do have reasonable expectations, i just try to push myself as hard as possible. I want to be the best i canbe.
  10. We live in Durham. Please have reasonable expectations of yourself and your progress.Fencing is a great sport and can be a lifelong sport. My son who is a year older than you are has just begun to have National success. He has been fencing for several years. Of course everyone develops abilities at different rates. I remember when my son went to his first competition, he was about 12, his coach set a goal for him to get a touch. Just one touch in the whole event. The next time it was to get a touch in each bout. Your goals can be big or small and your success can depend on setting realistic goals for yourself. Have your coach help to set them with you.You might take a look @ the first Jr.Progressive in Durham. It will be happening Oct. 23 or 24. But don't feel like you have to rush out to compete. Do it at your own pace and don't be afraid to compete.Every fencer I know has had losses and still do, even the best.
