Cannon Beach is mostly sandy with a monolithic rock formation sitting about 200 feet out in the surf (depending on the tide) which has been designated as a bird sanctuary. So far, 2 of the acclaimed 3 cannons have been uncovered, with the most recent one being this past spring.
