Right now it looks free. If I get in for my hand surgery then, I'll be off for sure.

Cool. All I have is an artistic adaptation of a favorite indulgence of mine.

I read your brainblogs... is it wrong of me to find comfort, solace, and at times amusement? You are a much stronger person than I am, but I suppose you have had more practice at it. =^_^=

I went to a ref seminar this weekend with instructor, Derek Cotton. ( Who is also from California.) Part of the workshop was on wheel chair fencing. I know/knew almost nothing about it and never understood the term "butt judge" prior to this event. I noticed in Kidlazy's comment.

I learned what a hard event this is to ref. Derek said that when he starts the bout that when he says " ready", he is really talking to himself. The action is so fast.

I will be looking forward to learning more about this through your adventures and your blog.

Please keep us posted, so it can be a learning experience for us as well.

(Just in case you are wondering.) I did some W.C.Fencing years ago, not competing, just a training partner.

Just make sure you don't stand up when "lunging," you don't want them to call butt-judge on you.

10,000 Years of Jewish Guilt Crashing Down

by Greybeard on 01-18-2012 at 03:55 PM
I just got back from my workout at the Challenge Center. That is the facility that only works with stroke survivors. I love the staff and the people who work out there. But there are a couple of “fresh” survivors and I am watching them learn to stand or walk or transfer better. They still have “stroke talk.” I used to refer to it as “thick tongue,” you know the feeling you get when you have a mouth full of Novocain and your tongue feels thick and you have trouble making words. You also get

Do I go or do I stay?

by Greybeard on 07-18-2011 at 07:52 PM
I don’t know what to do. I haven’t worked since January of 10. I know I can do it. I am doing volunteer work with the Brain Injury Foundation and the Access Committee at the SD Zoo. It is our task to update the Zoo and Safari Park ADA Book to make sure the Zoo complies with the new regulations and then train zoo employees.

I am also trying to raise money for wheelchair fencing and am coming up with a big goose egg. I know they said to expect some rejection but $20 out of a thousand

Beat behind

by Greybeard on 05-22-2010 at 06:47 PM
I think I might be on to something. I don't mean to take anything from my fellow "wheelies, " but I think I finally figured something out.

Most of the wheelies with whom I fence have been the victims of a traumatic accident that left them incapable of fencing on their feet. Or perhaps there is something physical. I have not met that many wheelies who have suffered stroke. Or in my case strokes.

As I was lunging in the garage today I noticed I am a beat

I am about ready to give up

by Greybeard on 04-29-2010 at 02:57 PM
I had a private lesson last night. It went well, but my performance was less than I expected. I seemed tired, and it effected my form (and attacks). It could have been due to long days work. I need to rest before Summer Nationals. Also, I could not manage the arm speed of my previous day. I suspected that not warming up with attacks from a stationary distance might effect this. However, it could be that I simply have not perfected the attack from advancing.

Is it really time to melt my chair into slag?

by on 04-13-2010 at 12:46 PM
I have to vent. And you guys are the unfortunate recipient of it. I am so sick and tired of not being allowed to drive. Not that I have anywhere to go, but I would like the ability to go there. The club would be a nice place.

I haven’t fenced since NAC is Dallas and I am hoping to fence before nationals. I am back to doing my 100 lunges a day in the garage. Last night I thought about bringing the frame home with the spare chair and a box so others could come to me. I asked around
