Trade practises are about selling equipment. You can't sell the equipment in the UK, but you can use it. Since the FIE has not made the decision that it is unsafe, it's business as usual as far as FIE events go.
Having said that.... I just bought some Wuxi FIE pants a couple weeks ago. I am returning them (even though they are still considered FIE). Partly because I ordered them custom sized and they just pulled one of their standard sizes, therefore they don't fit right in the waist. Partly because I don't want the hassle. I have 350NW pants these pants were supposed to be for events that required FIE and it's too early to tell where this is going and if they will eventually be no longer considered FIE. For a little bit more money, I can get something that is truly 800NW or more.
If these were an old pair, I wouldn't worry at this point, and just replace them as needed. They may not be 800NW, but they are more protection than 350's which is what most people wear.
It could be interesting as the Cadet and Juniors Worlds are in Belfast in April -- part of an EU country and part of the UK. So, it has been defined as unsafe equipment in that region.
Wuxi/Jiang is the official supplier to the Chinese national team. Whose ruling takes priority -- FIE homologation or Trade Practices?
Thanks. I think they are good questions about recalled safety equipment, but no answers at all. Perhaps I should walk around the block and chat to the pres of our federation.
I was multi-tasking and buying a glove when I stated my age in the profile and got the numbers mixed up. Does anyone want to buy a really, really big glove??? :D
