After greeting friends and figuring out the situation of the rooms we were ready to see some fencing. So much media follows Laura Flessel around that it can be hard to find a seat anywhere near her matches. I realize I've been lucky as our club has hosted the French national championships two or three times now. Laura is the defacto spokesman of the FFE and has to deal with a lot of pressure from the unbelievably demanding French press corps. More on this later.
Surprising number of Nantais at the Grand Palais for the men and women’s individual épée final. Our club’s entire women’s team was there. Not to mention assorted maîtres d’armes from the Grand Ouest. So the Friday training group has resulted in the following:
1. Our club displacing the middle and part of the top tier in regional standings. We've three fencers in the top ten. Last year there was nobody. Best annual result for our club in twenty years.
2. Our A team having the best finish for Nantes (of five or six teams) in the Zonal qualifier for nationals. Unfortunately we missed our qualification by two or three touches.
So the Friday training group has resulted in the following:

Putting it back together again. You always feel it most where there are missing pieces. Hit the track. In movement as well as personnel. We got back Royal, Tuna, and Lucky. I made them an offer. F is back from Paris. T is still in the outre-mer. We did a demo at the sporting goods store with the new ludo-escrime equipment. Getting Tuna and Lucky to compete will mean me spending a weekend traveling with them. Not sure I can afford the time or money to do so. The downside
