Hey, has anyone ever tried Leon Paul's Moulded rubber 'gun stock' handle with solid Aluminium core? If so, what did you think of it as compared to a leather-wrapped handle?

The handle I'm talking about is the second from the top on this page.

Cleaning an epee tip

This may be an old hat to many but shall share anyway:

I cleaned both our weapons last week. Today we fenced with the clean weapons for the first time. My wife's tip (LP) packed up right at the end of session.

When I got home I took it apart. It seems that a piece of cotton from the Q-tip I was using to clean the barrell with alcohol got stuck under one of the contacts inside the tip and worked its way over it thus effectively stopping the contact spring from contacting. It was not that difficult to remove and the tip is fine now (I think!).

Just a heads-up for those using Q-tips...

Magnetizing my Saber

Sounds insane, right? Well it's true.

I once tried to magnetize my saber to automatically draw in parries. Firstly, I tried taking a magnetizer thing and stroke it up and down the blade. I then realized that doing that did nothing, as when you went down the blade then went up it would simply reverse the effect.

So then I took the blade apart and just take the magnet and go down the blade.

But I tend to forget things so after about 50 strokes or something I'd stop paying attention and go the other way. So it would just reverse it again.

Then I made sure I went the correct way and moved the magnet thing down about 200 times or something, and then when I fenced it didn't really work. All it could do was pick up tiny pieces of metal.

Saber Grips???

If only it was possible to have different grips for the saber. I really love the visconti and the belgium grip for my foil, if only there were some way to change the plane french grip of a saber (which is my primary weapon). Though, because the guard curves around to the grip, would an italian grip work on a saber?

Think about it.

Saber Lame (Borst USA)

Good day fencers! My name is Nico and I will soon be competing in many tournaments to come! I have already competed in several, and have been fencing for about a year and a half now since July 2008. My primary weapon is the saber and my secondary weapon being the foil, but the foil is still evil.

Anyway, I was wondering if anybody knew where to buy saber lames and what not AND get both last name and country on the back of the lame. Since my last name is Borst it should say "Borst USA". Anybody know where to buy these lamés?

(And does lame have an accent over the e?)

When the tip takes lots of pressure to go off.

You know when your weapon gets to where it doesn't go off without an unusual amount of pressure? How do you prevent that?

I'm guessing the problem has to do with the big spring being too stiff. Do you just take it out and pull on it in two directions? Would it help to lengthen the little spring?

Any advice would be appreciated, as this is one of my biggest problems in fencing. I counted six touches that I gave up in one five-touche bout because I wasn't hitting hard enough.

It seems you just have to be a jerk and try to put the weapon through your opponent.

fwf foil tips - seizing...?!

have been very competitive, imported and armourer so sort of know about the stuff...

so I ordered (from US another company) some fie blades (wired with tips..) and specified wanted GERMAN TIPS. [I was trying to see if anyone else had noticed this problem when found this page]

when I received them I was a little (!?) concerned/upset re these were french tips and not compatible with ALL my german spare parts - ok I should have specified allstar german but I didn't know there was a company called FWF (have been out of fencing a few years)..

ok emailed company - found they were german ... so my mistake...

german tips should be good right!? [they have a good rep. - well allstar/uhlmann does...)

hmm... well out of 5 club FIE foils with these tips three have started seizing up - never had this problem with allstar tips(very few problems at all over 20 years - I still use them myself!)

when you hit they stick down and stay down (aarrgghh..) - you can pull them back out and they work fine but then next hit sticks the tips again..

I can't see any noticeable dent in the tip nor in the barrel..

anyone else noticed this problem?

so I am not too impressed by these tips....

I never used to mind the screws getting mashed up as happened so few times and using a multi-tool could just drill them out..

siorry took a while to get to it huh - should have used the kiss principle - Keep It Simple St...

The part of the lame that covers the zipper has curled in on itself and the nonconductive side is showing. Is there a simple way to fix this?
