In Fencing Journals Why Pretty Good Isn't Good Enough |

By Charles Osgood
There once was a pretty good student,
Who sat in a pretty good class
And was always taught by a teacher
Who always let pretty good pass.
He wasn't terrific at reading,
He wasn't a whiz-bag at math,
But for him, education was leading
Straight down a pretty good path.
He didn't find school too exciting,
But he wanted to do pretty well,
And he did have some trouble with writing,
And nobody taught him to spell.
When doing arithmetic problems,

I have done the following:
-Utterly trashed my good name among the top-300 World of Warcraft guilds.
-Uninstalled WoW
-Canceled my account
-Given my PW to a friend with instructions to change it and never tell me.
You can't get more cold turkey than that folks. Let's see if I can get my A this year.

But I really should be back now. Maybe.
As much as I hate to admit it, the thing that's stopped me from fencing over the past two years is I switched addictions to computer games. I think I might have broken that finally. We'll see.

I'm back into the sport after about a year's hiatus. I shall be back snarking the forums regularly.
Isn't that fun!

In Fencing Journals Open last weekend... |

I didn't know I could still do that crap in pools. I went 3-3 but I was just fighting for every touch. No skill or ability, just brute willpower pulling me though.
Seeded 15th. DEs were much better. Put away the 18th seed easily 15-10 mainly on double touches. Next bout was MR who took me apart 5-2 in pools. I had my revenge; I was up 9-2 at one point. Ended 15-8 or so. Beat ME (clubmate) in a close bout 13-12 to make the 4.
Bout in the for was Vaktang Iagorashvili, who I'd seen coachin

So I've been paying attention to the CFC format change discussion with a slight amout of hoplessness and despair. I'm pretty sure I won't know what the actual format will be when I get on a plane in March, and that's really not kosher. I am personally in favor of the NW proposal with 7 team pools and seeding by USFA rating, but then, I'm a decent fencer from a OK club in a pretty strong fencing area, so I might be biased. I guess it might look different to clubs which don't expect to make it th

I know I didn't really want it; I know it's not a particularly helpful rating, but I just won the first open of the season and now I'm a B2006, and it feels awsome.
Pools: 4-1 +13
DE: 32: Bye, 16: MM 15-9, 8: DS 15-7, 4: GV 15-7, Final: ZPG 15-13

Fenced the Canadian Style open (pools -> DEs to the 16 -> 2 pools of 8 -> 50% promotion -> DEs to the final). An interesting format. 25 people showed; placed 3rd.
Went 4-1 in pools losing my first bout 4-5 by being stupid. Seeded 4th, had a bye directly into a pool of 8. Went 5-2 in my pool of 8, losing my first 2 bouts to clubmates. Promoted, won my first DE 15-11 over the guy I lost to in my first pool, then lost 8-15 to AC who regularly kicks me around. He went on to win. Would have had m
