Dear f.net It's sleeting outside; I'm taking a break from indoor spring cleaning projects by stalking the website again. I came across a couple closed threads ( Foil fencers and you might be addicted to fencing if...) I'm laughing so hard and feeling so wistful for the fencing world again. I love the banter of fencers on f.net and off the strip, I miss the comradery of my old friends, and I remember all the goofy things I used to do because I fenced. Do you go to the engarde position ...
Admittedly, I haven't fenced in ages, but I still haunt f.net for my fix. I have tried to start a thread asking other fencers if they have arthritis and if so, how do they deal with it when they fence. Alas, I can't start the thread. Plus, I'd rather not bother younger fencers with aging problems, but I think a forum for veterans to sound off might be in order. So, I've been sore all summer, and figured I was just out of shape. Now, there's this thing called rheumatoid arthritis ...
There has been a moratorium on fencing/spending money in my household for over a year now. I continued to have some contact with fencing by being the secretary of the division this past year, but I'm only fooling myself. I have handed the books over to the next secretary. If you can't fence, you can't watch the game. If you can't watch the game you're out of practice refereeing, and then there's no point in studying for referee rating... you get my drift. Frustrating! ...
In one month we will have our annual general meeting for the Wisconsin division. Other than re-hashing old business (oh, goody) and electing officers for the next year the meeting has ZERO input for the agenda from the membership at large. So it may be a short meeting! Listen up, people- this is your division. If you want to change things up, or improve something you don't like, you need to speak up. If, for instance, you are not satisfied with NACs or the whole USFA fiasco ...
This has nothing to do with fencing whatsoever, but since it is better than Sex on the Strip, I thought I'd share this with you! I made a cheesecake for the office the other day, and it turned out really, really good. It is creamy, chocolately, not overly sweet and fairly low in calories, as far as cheesecakes go. My epiphany was to use a water bath during the baking, which produced an evenly baked cake without cracks, and without a chewy edge. This recipe makes a 9" springform ...
