The Sabre Rattlers are the fencing club of UW Rock County extension in Janesville, WI. Saturday they held a fall open, and I had a great time!
Not having been on the strip for a long time I was a bit anxious, but I felt at ease immediately. It was good to see familiar faces.
Everything seemed to go my way, but no, that does not mean I won. The uniform still fit, the foils still worked, the body cords behaved, and I did not embarrass myself on or off the strip. At one point, and I must admit it was in DEs before it happened, I had a light bulb turn on and show me where to land the touch. It was so cool to get to that zone, and it allowed me to close the gap a bit before my opponent finally finished me off. I had nearly as much fun just watching the others finish their bouts, and watch the referees, who also did a good job. Finally, I was lucky enough to have my friend Dave fix one of my weapons so I'll be ready to play again someday soon!
