An unrated veteran foil fencer. A closet epeeist, a sabreurre wannabe-- I can't really help myself; I love the sport! I expect the best from fencers, am disillusioned at the politics in fencing and of fencers behaving badly.
We had a 5 hour division meeting yesterday. Inspite of the long intervals of angst I think we've emerged into a divison that acknowledges past transgressions and looks forward to starting afresh. I think one of the goals we accomplished was to realize we had some 130 registered fencers in the state and the division exists to encourage and support them all. While we are not a large nor rich division we are in the black, which is more than some can say!
I will tell you that Mike Garrison was re-elected as Chair, Steve Starry as Vice-Chair, Karen Voelz as treasurer, Dave Neevel as armourer and yours truly as secretary. I don't think we'll need a Sargent at Arms, I think yellow cards will do. the website will be taken over by K.KosteckaWe are tasked with examining and approving state by-laws, based on the USFA by-laws. We are charged with enforcing safety at every fencing meet.
We did not discuss paying the division $1 per fencer at each competition, which had been passed the previous two years. Voting by proxy was clarified: if you're not gonna be at a meeting and you want to be counted you must submit your proxy to the division secretary 72 hours before the meeting. Unfortunately, that had not been made clear, so several votes were not counted. Bummer. We did not specifically set do any goal-setting. I look forward to doing that within 60 days with the rest of the executive committee.
As secretary I plan to record meetings so as to get the facts straight, and will keep you all informed and hopefully interested enough to participate. Thank you for all your thoughts, prayers and support.
