The title refers to how I feel like I've been training lately leading up to Dallas. For the past few months I've been training pretty well but about 3 weeks ago I got pretty sick and got hit with midterms at the same time. I ended up not fencing much and doing almost zero physical training for 2 weeks because of it. For the last week I feel like I've been training extra hard to make up for lost time, which is not really what I need to do because I need to be tapering my training right now leading up to what looks like a marathon event (JME - something like 250 fencers).
Anyways at least I'm mostly better now, I've still got a cough and am low on stamina but feeling good enough.
Today we had a one day training camp at brebeuf with the new national epee coach, Gabor Solomon. I really like the guy, he brings a lot of interesting ideas to the table and seems to really want to work hard to help us improve. Unfortunately, though I really like his system of fencing, its very different from some of the things my old coach had me doing. He wants my arm further from my body in my en gaurde which seems like a cool idea, but I'm a little worried about changing too much right before a big competition. Since this is my last season as junior, I really want to do well now and not later - however I think this stuff could pay off later this season so I'm happy enough to do it. I've already changed how I do my parry 4 so a lot of other stuff could change for me in the next few months.
Sherraine also showed up for the training camp today. Its really funny cause I fence with all the guys on the senior team fairly often and don't really get worked up about it but Sherraine really seems like a fencing celebrity so it was kinda cool to fence her for the first time.
