Last weekend was the canadian junior/cadet nationals and senior csc #1.
On Saturday I had senior men's epee and had a difficult pool to start off with. Since nationals and csc's are now closed, pools are generally very strong, particularly in epee. I lost to Vince Pelletier in my first match. I let him get a few freebies before I really started fencing but I couldn't catch up. After that I fenced Max brinck who has given me a lot of trouble. I fenced great against him and beat him by being p

This weekend was the first time for two things for me: Visiting Toronto and meeting somebody from fencing.net who I didn't already know in person.
I met Glowstix in the morning and the two of us warmed up together before seniors. After that he ended up going 4-1 in his pool and I went 5-1 in mine.
My only loss was to Arseni Tikhomirov, who is basically a miniature version of his father and has improved a lot recently.
Anyways going into d.e.'s I was seeded 5th and got a bye through the f

This weekend was the quebec senior provincials and the junior circuit event #4. The senior was ridiculously strong because the Canadian High Performance camp was taking place here in Montreal and the HP fencers had to fence the event.
The night before the event I went to the hotel where the HP fencers were staying to visit my coach and some fencers from my ex-club. It was a pretty sweet reunion, we went to the grocery store, bought a bunch of food and headed back to the suite where coach

I fenced very well at this competition but I was not very smart at a few crucial moments.
Individual was 2 round of pools, no cuts and then direct elimination.
In the 1st round of pools I went 4-1, beat st hilaire but lost to a foilist.
In the 2nd round I went 5-0, partly because I was fencing well and partly because i had a pretty easy pool.
I was seeded 3rd and had a bye to the 32 where I was supposed to fence rich or beaudouin.
Rich is from my club and is a good friend so I went

So Atlanta was the last competition of the season for Canadian junior and cadet team selections. I came into it 5th in junior and I think I went out of it in the same place - I wasn't entirely disappointed with the competition but I was upset with my lack of consistency and (of course) I was upset with not making the team.
My pool in Div 1 was pretty strong, with myself and Greenhouse both being underseeded. He absolutely smoked me and then I also got edged by Adam and someone else. I was fe

So a few weeks ago I was doing a weekend camp with the national coach and a handful of other juniors. It was a good little camp and a lot of fun; however, there was one little problem. I am very inflexible and this new coach is really into stretching. Combine this with the fact that he's a pretty funny, good-natured guy to begin with and he spent a lot of the camp laughing at my inability to touch my toes. I didn't take it personally because it is pretty funny (and sad) how inflexible I am, but

So after I got back from Dallas I went to see the doctor because I had a terrible cough and no wind. It turned out that I have had bronchitis for the last 3 weeks and that it was triggering my latent asthma. So I started taking pills and got myself a puffer. Unfortunately the last canadian competition of the year (senior nationals and a junior csc) was last weekend and my body still hadn't had time to completely recover from the bronchitis. I felt slow and tired throughout the competition and i

Pretty funny, my last entry was called cram training and now there's an article on the main page about it.
Dallas didn't go well. I spent most of the night before the competition coughing and then the morning of I was trying to make my weapons work.
None of these are really decent excuses because it was my mental state that was not normal for this competition. I didn't take enough risks this competition. My mental state was shown perfectly when I lost my first pool match 1-0 in overtime b

The title refers to how I feel like I've been training lately leading up to Dallas. For the past few months I've been training pretty well but about 3 weeks ago I got pretty sick and got hit with midterms at the same time. I ended up not fencing much and doing almost zero physical training for 2 weeks because of it. For the last week I feel like I've been training extra hard to make up for lost time, which is not really what I need to do because I need to be tapering my training right now leadi

This morning I woke up early, around 7:30 am, unfortunately I was supposed to wake up at 6:15. What happened was that I had set my alarm for 6:15 pm rather than am; luckily, I still woke up before the competition but I have no idea how.
I got a ride with a friend of mine and we arrived 5 minutes after the close of check-in. Again, fortunately, our clubmates had already checked us in so we were allowed in the tournament. Neither of us really had any time to warm up we both just put on our fen
