  2. Repetition

by , 11-20-2008 at 10:56 AM (My training log)
    Wednesday in Mannheim.

AH and LZ present. Also, one of the ambitious women of an age I mentioned a couple of months ago.

Stretched, drilled, fenced. I was irritable. Also fencing too much with strength, not enough with head. The AWOAA hit late, from the elbow, repeatedly. Earned a lecture from me, complete with a demonstration of the correct way to execute a cut, with the fingers, delivered to her mask, and the incorrect way, clubbing the sabre and hitting from the ...

Dynamic stretching turns out to be nothing more than the kind of calisthenic exercises that a couple of my Eastern European coaches have been requiring for years. I find it enjoyable and a good warm up for the static stretches.

Haven't read the research on static ...

  5. Sunday lesson in the Holy Temple of Sabre

by , 11-12-2008 at 11:21 AM (My training log)
    W/Istvan.

    1. W/blades engaged, M pushes, S pushes back, using fingers only. M releases blade, S cuts head (w/ advance or lunge if needed). Standing, then following distance. Eventually, M cuts flank after S headcut, S parry 3, riposte.

    2. Close distance, M taps S's blade, S taps back, in 3 or in 4 (back edge). As above.

    3a. S bind 4, feint head w/ advance, cut flank w/lunge.
    3b. S bind counter 3, feint flank w/advance, cut head w/lunge.
