Got invited to fence the FC WE team in practice prior to Nationals. Not only was this a very good time, but finally a chance to hv a competitive atmosphere in bouting. I fenced well, except for one bout against Mya, who is deceptively fast off the blade, and moible. My tactics were wrong fencing her: should hv been much more patience, and counter-attacked. Compound attacks on her blade are very difficult to execute. If you're wrong, touch against; if you execute correctly, still vy good chances ...

I decided I would start keeping notes in this journal, as today is special to me.

Three weeks ago today I was in the Intensive Care Unit of a big-city hospital, having been delivered there by ambulance from our local hospital. Without going into details, I was, as my doctor said, "walking a tightrope' between life and death. With a fairly simple procedure and nine units of blood transfused into my body, I recovered in only four days. But it was not too much fun. In a posting on, ...

CR decided not to do practice, so AL suited up and fenced me, since no one else was there. I lost one to him, won one, most of my touches being second intention indirect (often to the hand) and most of his touches being parry-riposte of my ...

It's been really hot in Germany, which makes for heat stroke when fencing, especially wearing the silver spaceman sabre sauna suit.

Training on Wednesday--we had a full house--did the warm-up. I didn't throw up, but thought about it (shades of PdT). Fenced in somewhat desultory fashion--it was too damned hot.

Long, convoluted lesson with Alex, which I can't really remember. I don't think there were any new elements, but we were really playing the variation game, moving ...

Pomme de Terre: hot. Results: About what I expected (5th place). Do I finish where I expect because I know the strength of the field too well? I doubt it. I felt that I simply ran out of brain, energy, and will in the last bout with Eva Jellison, even if she should NOT have lost two bouts in her pool, one of them to Clare Deming 1-5. Well, the loss to Danielle Gordet is understandable, but still Eva's indicators were only 2. If she's going to futz around and see if she can climb out of a ...
