My participation in last weekend's tournament was a test for me. First, to see if my foot could survive in a tournament setting. (It did.) Second, to see how much I have forgotten in my two month hiatus while treating my plantar faciitis. (Not much.)

The number of epeeists registered was less than what I expected - only 7. With a turnout that small, results can be skewed and may not be a useful gauge. In fact, I finished poorly, but I feel that I fenced well, all things considered. ...

    So here goes.

Putting it back together again. You always feel it most where there are missing pieces. Hit the track. In movement as well as personnel. We got back Royal, Tuna, and Lucky. I made them an offer. F is back from Paris. T is still in the outre-mer. We did a demo at the sporting goods store with the new ludo-escrime equipment. Getting Tuna and Lucky to compete will mean me spending a weekend traveling with them. Not sure I can afford the time or money to do so. The downside ...

I think by writing it all down I'm able to store it away in my memory and then move on to the next tournament with a clean slate.

The last entry I wrote was about nationals where I had my best results ever. I won a lot of close matches even though I wasn't in good shape and my fencing wasn't at its best. In between ...

My thumb is clearly not injured after all; the mild swelling has gone down; though there's a pain point if I poke my finger right into the joint, I don't feel any pain when I write or type. Laura Johnson was very acerbic with me yesterday about fencing hurt when I whined about my hand; the words "overuse injury" were used, with the clear implication that I was gunning for one. Hah. She should talk; she was gimping around having (in the pools of the open) turned an ankle that was already ...
