  1. Reffing Milwaukee

    I reffed Milwaukee - my first NAC in years, although I reffed at Nationals this last summer. It clarified a couple things in my head, and was overall a good experience.

    On the nuts and bolts front, there are a couple calls that I was not as good at and now see pretty well, particularly "attack stops, attack arrives." I'm still not quite sure how exactly to physically phrase that when I say it to the fencers, since there's no signal for "stops." I can either ...

  2. Rebuilding

    I'm pleased to note that my legs are recovering/gaining strength nicely. I'll never be able to move and lunge like the teenagers but I've developed good muscle tone and can squat and recover adequately. Considering I couldn't sit down without pain 3-4 years ago, I'm delighted with where I am now.

    Yesterday's lower body workout at the gym confirmed I could easily move up the weights another notch but I've decided against that possibility. Instead, I'm doubling up the Pilate Reformer ...

  3. Christmas Shopping...

    I'm one of the crazy people that's going shopping today. Even worse...we're going to the outlets! I just had the thought (and no, I haven't finished my coffee yet this morning):

    Maybe I should take my mask along...I might need the extra protection from the other crazies!

  4. So winters here

    I started blacksmithing recently. Got some cool stuff in the works. Unfortunately the weight thing got away from me during the summer. Back up to 205ish.

    Oh well, what I really need is some REASON to get in shape. Martial arts just doesnt hold the same lustre for me it once did. I've done it all. My concept of self defense is just suplexing someone. So why bother with training? When you get to my level.. the only people I have to worry about are either people with guns or other martial ...

  5. Athletic Training Eval

    At my last follow up, my Ortho suggested I start seeing the Athletic Trainer in the practice. I think I wrote about it before, but anyways, today was my first appointment. Today was just the eval and to talk about goals and fencing and where I am now as opposed to where I need to be.
