There's a camp going on at the club during the day, plus we had two sabre events on the weekend, so when I arrived all the kids had left. However, Danielle was there and I knew she'd want to fence a fair amount, and soon afterwards Kiersten came in and Mark the foil fencer put on a sabre lame, so we had some good bouting. Danielle is great because I can't make her stop or hitch, so I have to have good distance and blade actions. We fenced fifteen touches around; I tried to fence Danielle a second time but just didn't have the legs because I have to move when I'm fencing her.
I didn't have a lesson, because I just wanted to fence and Mark Masters had already told me I should take it easy today. I was continuing to work on making my footwork smooth, balanced, light and correct, and I talked to Kiersten about making accelerated attacks. She takes a couple of big metronome advances off the on-guard line and if I keep my footwork small and controlled I can often just hit her in prep with a double-advance lunge, because she's already too close when she's just beginning her lunge.
Ahren has bought his ticket for Veteran Worlds in October and I'll have to reimburse him. Hopefully I'll have some more money by October and I'll be able to give him some money for lodging. He is coming in Saturday; I'm fencing Sunday; he and I both leave Monday.
