  1. Turned the Corner

Nothing much significant here. Just noting a milestone. When I started fencing, one of my reasons for doing so was to stay fit. As noted in my previous blog entry, I am now working out in a gym at work (I hate exercise machines) in order to be a better fencer. The cause and effect have traded places.

  2. Training Plan

    by , 02-21-2008 at 09:17 AM
Since changing clubs I now have the opportunity to fence only once a week so I am adding some time in the "workout room" at work twice a week. To start, I am planning spending some time on the elliptical and the recumbent bike with light intermissions on the weight machine. I started last week, missed Monday this week, but am back on schedule as of yesterday. I think this is going to work well.

  3. Learning as I Go

    by , 02-12-2008 at 09:56 AM

The bad news - I badly underestimated a couple of opponents in my pool. I pegged them for total newbies. They were not. Still, I could have beaten them if I had used my best game. I thought I had a handle on pre-judging my opponents. Apparently I still have some work to do there. I also forgot to warm up with another fencer on piste before ...

  4. Just Not Enough

    by , 02-04-2008 at 10:52 AM
I learned a couple of things at yesterday's tournament. The first thing I knew for a while, but I got a better perspective on it. It has been observed that when I start getting tired, my point control goes to hell in a handbasket. I have been working on energy management for a long time and can now fence all day. Unfortunately, I cannot fence well all day. In yesterday's tournament we did a super-pool format - two rounds of pools. The first pool went very much as expected. The second was ...

  5. DHEA

    by , 02-01-2008 at 02:34 PM
I'm making this entry private because the information in it is, well, private, and best viewed only by my best friends.

As men age, they sometimes start looking around the drug store for help in, um, certain areas. I am no exception. On my last visit to the "men's supplements" section, I happened upon one that touted DHEA among its ingredients. Just to give it a try, I bought a bottle.

My online research indicates that DHEA is supposedly a natural hormone ...
