  1. Not Ready Yet

    by , 08-30-2007 at 09:25 AM
I was hoping to make a trial return to fencing tonight. Just a light workout with my epee. My foot, however, is saying "no" with every step I take.

I have done everything recommended - stretching, ice, arch supports, anti-inflamatories - I even purchased a foot massager and a Strassburg sock. Each and every thing brought some relief, but none of them brought me a cure. The pain has subsided to a 3 on a scale of 1 to 10, but there it stays. I know that if I try ...

  2. No Way Out

    by , 08-28-2007 at 10:25 AM
Last night I surprised my wife by asking if I could ride along when she went to put gas in her ’65 Mustang. (She is taking it down the drag strip tonight to see what it will do.) While we were out, I suggested we stop somewhere for ice cream as we hadn’t made our usual number of ice cream runs on our motorcycles this year. We had gotten our treats and were sitting outside eating them and talking about classic cars. I vaguely heard a car going down the road when my wife exclaimed, “There goes ...

  3. Once is not Enough

    by , 08-19-2007 at 10:00 AM
The plantar faciitis has not been getting better as quickly as I would like. In fact, it hasn't been improving hardly at all. I have been doing everything the doctor suggested, but to little avail. Yesterday I was ready to call the doctor's office and demand a steroid injection.

I had tried the Strassburg sock only once about a week ago and pulled it off after a couple of hours. It was so uncomfortable that I could not sleep. Last night I decided to give it another try. I started ...

  4. Inch by inch, step by step...

    SLOOOOOOOOOWLY I turned....

I am slowly making progress on the Plantar Faciitis. It does not hurt as much as it did. I am religiously working on doing the stretching. Rest, ice, AIs, arch supports, and an Homedics foot massager are helping too. I tried the Strassburg sock but even the mild stretch it puts on the toes is REALLY annoying. I may try modifying it to attach to a strap around the ball of the foot. I am hoping to make a partial return to fencing in September ...

  5. Making it longer

    by , 08-09-2007 at 11:36 AM
That's what I have to do to my plantar fascia tendon - make it longer. I have to stretch it. The PA agrees with my self-diagnosis of plantar fasciitis. She gave me stretching exercises (I've been doing them for a while), advice to use arch supports (I've been using them for a while) and a prescription-strength anti-inflamatory. That's new.

The AI is nice. It takes away the pain. The problem is that it is only temporary. When it wears off, the pain is back. I need to fix the ...
