Touche review. The kids came back from the local tournament this weekend. All I can say is wow. They understand why fencing foil locally is still dicey but it helps them try and adjust to the ref, I think that is good training.
Now in epee it really doesn’t matter ( as much), which is the real reason that they went. At least there are other people there and now we don’t feel like it is a $20 practice session. Luke and Ryan beat up on one of the architects of the heresy that was good. I told Ryan that he finally gets to see the other side of the island for a little while until he makes another mistake and then he will be back on the other side. That should be in about a week. Funny, they told me that they were going to hold the results until the USFA upgraded everyone’s ratings from previous tournaments. This way the tournament would be higher rated and they could pass out more ratings. I thought, wow, look the pot is now calling the kettle black. Am I surprised, no. I find it funny that the division officers would waste all the time of the USFA to accuse me of tournament rigging for inflated ratings, yet here they are doing the same damn thing thinking its OK we are the BOD. This would have made Ryan a B in epee and Kevin still, a C because Georgia is still ssslllloooowwww is turning in results to the USFA. I find this to be very funny.
Carlin got accepted to Drew and they are offering her a scholarship to go there and fence while she awaits other schools to let her know. We will see if she stays in NC or leaves. Kevin is waiting also, I hope Ohio State works out, I would like him to go there, NYU wouldn’t be bad either. Katie is going to Winthrop she got a full ride. She will now be part of our instructor core when she gets down here. She may be the punch in the arm that Ft. Mill location needs. That may even start here over the summer, we’ll see.
Greenville has now surpassed Matthews in students which I think is great in trying to make SC a new powerhouse in fencing. The opening fencers have proved to be a disappointment, big surprise there. The foil death squad is growing, this is scary unto itself. Others are choosing to become sub leaders to join in the cause. Union Academy will have a formal program in the fall, Brandon will finally be attending kindergarten (God, where does the time go?) there. The new gym is nice it will be interesting to see what Ken proposes, it has been 4 years now, before the Heresy.
I have made the schedule for next season to be reviewed this weekend with the instructors and we will be talking about who will be the next Marshal for the next 10 years.
