Well, Mike came by last night. He is on leave for a few weeks before he goes back to the academy. We talked about his 7 wk stint as a DI and we laughed about it a lot. He will be the new team captain next year as a junior and then after he graduates he will probably be going to MIT to get his masters.
It will be interesting to see what his duty assignment will be after his schooling. We have two other kids that will be looking at the academy as a possible college path. I really wish the point would get something going, it kills me the army doesn't have an NCAA team to send kids to.
We fenced a lot and it was good to watch him interact with the rest of the new kids that look at him as a legend. "You are Mike O'Connor, you name is on the wall a lot. You fence in the NCAA's, wow, that's cool. Will you fence with me and tell me how I can help my fencing?".
The summer is always full of surprises around here. Hell, Charlie Creason came back the other day and Andy Moore as well. They weren't the best but they love the sport and came back and are now part of the "adult" group. I wonder where things will be in about a decade down here. Hopefully Mike and the rest of the crew will be around for our labor day kick off.
