One overlying problem the entire weekend: focus. I've had focus problems in the past, but its really obvious now and a huge problem. The only bout where I sat down and really focused was the DE with Zeichmann, and I only had it in the last two periods. I'm really going to have to try hard with it, because I notice a huge difference in my performance when I'm truly concentrating. And that starts at practice.
I had a good bout with Kevin. It was neck and neck until the very end, where he changed his game just a little, and I didn't adapt in time. The whole bout was about game changing. I started doing something that worked, got a lead, and then he changed and overtook the lead, and then I changed, and it was back and forth like that until the end where it was 13-13 and he changed and scored two quick points with it at the end there before I could adapt enough to make the second of the two a one-lighter for me. Sucks that I couldn't fence like that in pools. Consolation prize is that I lost to the winner of the event, and ended up with the best score against him out of any of his DE's. One more A in the area, perhaps we'll finally have an A4 at Sectionals in Epee, for once. Maybe I won't have to fence him at Sectionals, also, since I seem to always fence him at least once in any event we're both in.
Also my shin splints still hurt like crazy, the taping didn't help while fencing. I'm going to take time off after summer nationals to complete the appropriate rest period so that they go away for next season.
