drove up to fence this event mostly for practice. wanted to fence some foil before atlanta, and wanted to fence epee period, since i don't have anyone to practice with in practice.
i treated my pools in epee like practice in order to get some much needed practice in. results reflected this, as i dropped a lot more touches than i should've, and dropped a bout.
i can't really recall who was in my pool, but i went 4-1, +18. ended up seeding tied for first, on the top side of the bracket.
DEs:
32) bye
16) k. blakeboro: treated it similar to pools, trying new things, experimenting, and learning. 15-8 V.
8) i forget his name: fenced this guy in pools, 5-0'd him. treated it like practice, again. 15-7 V.
4) a. carter: this was the first bout i treated as a real bout, since i was fencing the only A at the event. i came out to an early lead, but got some touches taken away from me due to equipment problems on his part (not that i was ever actually hit, i don't think, the equipment just tested bad and thats enough for an annulment). he made a nice comeback after everything was cleared up, but i managed to keep a solid 2 point lead the rest of the bout. 15-12 V or so.
2) k. zeichmann: i was plagued by hits that never went off, but felt valid for this entire bout. i don't know if i would've won if this wasn't a problem, though, because he was definitely fencing me well. but it definitely leaves the question in my mind. 9-15 D.
final: #2
i found out later that my side of the strip that i fenced the finals on had a broken wire in it.found that out when i immediately put on my lame and started warming up for foil on that strip, since it threw up a light once the break opened. that wasn't happening in epee since theres no light to throw up. oh well, was only for practice.
foil time. one big pool of 7, all the foilists there. i went 5-1. dropped one because i was fencing badly and was tired. still seeded first, though.
DEs:
8) bye
4) same unnamed guy in epee DEs: this was the same guy i lost to in pools, too. i'm not sure what he was doing that was so difficult for me. i think my mindset was just in epee mode, making things more difficult. 15-13 V.
2) g. green: my hands were developing some serious blisters over the day, and by the start of this bout, they were popping. ouch. plus, super tired. plus, some bad calls, cough cough. 13-15 D or so.
final: #2
was good practice for the nac, since i haven't gotten the chance to fence too many other people in foil.
