I signed up for a tournament in Indiana. I love the out of state tournaments.

I don't feel at the top of my game. I haven't been able to hit a single tournament this year with the work situation (I've been working 7 days a week and having to work late most nights).

Also I have been training with some french grip epees instead of pistol grips. I never really tried the pommelling bit before, but there are some opponents with pistol grips I practice with and it seems like if they go the only defending with counterattacks without taking the blade and I pommel I win every match.

The pistol grips I had at renaissance they insisted that I shorten the grip to give it better balance so with my pistol epees it seemed like the counterattackers had an edge if I couldn't grab the blade.

Since this is new I'm not 100% yet on using them even though I used french grip with foils a lot.

Work seems really shakey for me right now. Its on my mind a lot and I miss the days when I felt like I had job security and could just work my 8 hours and then fence all night and come home 5 nights a week and then hit the tournaments on Saturday.

That's life though. Ultimately I'll work with what I have available to me.

If I get laid off or fired or something I'm seriously considering moving to Florida. It was so pleasant there and it was nice being able to hang around with my little brother. I've heard their economy isn't so good but it looks a little better than michigan to me.

And all the pirate stuff going on was pretty sweet. We don't have anything like that up here.

The place I'm at, Ypsilanti it feels like its slowly turning into a wasteland as the big stores go out of business one by one.

Borders going out of business was a shock. I used to love their bookstore. There are like rows and rows of empty commercial buildings along the road I live on and I don't see any new stores move in when they close.

Truth be told though as far as borders go I've bought a lot of books on kindle and Amazon was cheaper prices + better availability for the hard copies of books I wanted. I had to spend about 3 times at borders to get the same book. That's hard to justify when the money is getting tighter.

I balanced all four of my epees today. I put the point angle a little lower so it will be easier for me to pick at the hand. I'll get to test the swords out on Tuesday when I go to schoolcraft. Should be fun. I'll try to use all 4 swords.
